couple of questions

How did you prime the unit?
Have you broken the filter down and looked inside it?
did you replace the glass sleeve and make sure the new one was not broken ..
what media did you Put in it ?

I primed it as per factory instruciton book: fill canister to approx 95%, put on lid, plug in unit and plunge primer . I plunged the primer which is on the lid about 5 times before it fired up and began pumping.
I looked inside each of the trays when I took all the media out to wash it. I used the factory stuff: ceramic o rings, black coarse sponge and white floss pads and charcoal.
The manufacterer sent me an entire new lid and wanted me to send the broken one back. No, I didnt' look inside the lid because after gently rocking it, I heard no loose pieces or crunching glass sounds.
Do you mean did I break down the filter after the fish died? No.

I would think it be wise you find out the problem a 100 % before you put the filter on blast

You can get water testing kits that you send off to a lab from a hardware store, and sometimes Home Depot gives out free ones.

Jenny I am so sorry to hear about this, I cant even imagine how you feel.

I dont think this is chlorine related though. I once forgot to put dechlorinator in during a water change and the fish all went to the bottom rather than gasping at the surface. That was my experience I could be wrong

Well to me it sounds like chlorine poisoning and if it is most LFS have tests for chlorine.

Definately inform the vendor that you got the filter from. They need to pull those thing off their shelves. Sorry for your loss. I know what it's like to lose all your fish, very devastating.

I just got home from work and saw that I'd missed a Chilambo. I took her out and blood came from her gills. The two adults that lived seem to be doing ok in the 75 and I haven't seen the 3 fry I put in there. Keep your fingers crossed.
I froze the female on the off chance I find someone who can do a necropsy on her. However, I don't know if it's possible because she's been in the water for so long.
