Re: Nightster's 150g
Spring, summer, and even sometimes in the fall I can get away with big water changes. Just not when its chilly outside. Today wasn't too bad, water was right at 70 degrees coming out of the faucet. They got a 75%, earlier. Freaked out a bit BC temp in the tank was 72 degrees, then went back to their normal selves.

Those are a lot of water changes. When it drops to below 30 degrees my trophs do not like more then 50% at a time water changes. The temp in the tank will drop from 79 to 60 in 1 water change. They are not happy when that happens. They still eat and still try to breed but they are not as active as they are when I do summer water changes.

Than if ur doing 150% wc a week u should be ok for the fish. I recently visited a fish room that all the tanks are setup to drained 10% twice a day everyday, the guy doesn't even use chemicals and his fish are thrivingOriginally posted by nightster View PostMy carbon bottle is in my garage and hooked up to the outside faucet. Id rather do 2-3 50% water changes a week with the carbon bottle than 2 90% out faucet....

I agree. I believe less more often is better than more less often.
