    June 28 HLA meeting/mini auction @ Fish Ranch

    Howdy

    The Houston Livebearers Association will have a mini auction and HLA meeting 10 am Saturday June 28 at Fish Ranch in Rosenberg.  The location is Charles Jones NEW store and it is really cool if you have not been there before.  The auction will be kept simple, 25% all sales will go back to HLA Club and sales tax will need to be charged.  Help us get the word out!

    Direction to Fish Ranch:  59 South to Hwy 36. Right on 36. Right on 90. Two streets over, corner of third and 90-also known as Avenue H (36 and First Street are the same in downtown). Address is 939  Third Street, Rosenberg, Tx 77471. 832-595-2777 if you're having troubles.

        Howdy, I would like to join the HLA, will it be possible to do so at the meeting? Also, I live in Lucas which is about 5 hours from Houston, so I would like to make the best of my time there and go collecting. Are there any good spots around the area for plants, livebearers, and native killies? Thanks in advance for any info.

          You can collect lots of things there: Guppies, Xenotoca, Mollies, Lima oh you don't mean in the store do you? Seriously, I have no idea.

            Ha! :-) Yes, I plan to at least check out the livebearers at the store. Do you know if they have any exotic Gambusia (not affinis or holbrooki)?

              I travel the area a lot, and see lots of planted bayous with moving water full of aquatic life. Haven't done a seine net yet, but there are lots of sailfins in the Texas waters, and lots of other fish.

                Yes. sailfins are definitely on my list. So are H. Formosa and gambusia. I don't know if H. Formosa occurs that far west though.

                  jamjam or anyone, really. There are 6 wild-caught Rainbow Dace I just moved to the store. If anyone's interested, I'd like to get them a good home. They lived very happily in my 85 at home for several months, but just too fast-moving for my slow community tank for my taste. I caught them near Victoria, in Coletto Creek. They will also make great pond fish.

                      Howdy,

                      You don't need to be a member to attend the HLA meetings but would love for you to join at the meetings.

                      There should be plenty of places to dip your net in for the Texas natives or a few exotics, just make sure you have a current fishing L.

                      GHAC has a meeting in Houston that afternoon and hear Luis Navarro is a GREAT speaker!

                      Let Bill Allen know if you catch any H. Formosa, he is tracking how far into Texas they are showing up.  Bill is also kindly donating fish to the auction.  Yes, we love club donations for the auction!

                          OK. Thanks. I have a current fishing license. Is there someplace where one is not allowed to fish? I mean where there might be protected species?
