Playing devils advocate. But do you think this will put our troops at harm? I mean how is it any different then what they are facing right now before this event? They are already in harm whether he was going to do this or not. Those that use this as a reason to justify their actions in attacking Americans were never friends of us anyways and wanted to hurt us anyways. Their actions are only proving his point and goal which is to drive out the people who hate us into the light. You are right in Kabul he couldnt do this but he could desecrate Christian, Hindu, and etc symbols. The reason we fight is for people to voice their opinion without harm. I honestly believe that the people who come out and attack American civilians and soldiers in the name of revenge for the desecration of their holy book are cowards and were going to do it no matter what because they hate us and they are violent criminals. This event didnt turn someone from being indifferent to America to violently opposed to America. Because America isnt burning their holy book this pastor and his congregation is. Everyone wants us to say well Islam isnt attacking America its crazy people who are Muslim. Which I believe is true, so if Islamic people want tolerance and equality then they should realize that America isnt attacking Islam its certain people that are Americans. Its the same thing
We wouldn't want to offend the Islamic Extremest before they go out to shoot at our troops. It's one thing to have a firefight on the battlefield but hurting their feelings is just mean.

My question is where is the ACLU? Where are the flag burning liberal lawyers that fight for 1st amendment rights at the drop of a hat? The federal government just questioned this man about what he wants to do. A general of the army spoke out about what he wants to do. How is it ok for the federal government to question him and asking him to stop. Yet when mosques in this country are recruiting men for holy war on infidels or "artists" are putting the cross in urine or elephant dung the federal government arent allowed to question them as it encroaches on their 1st amendment rights. Do you all see what a backward hypocritical society we now live in? My point of this post wasnt what he was doing but how this society reacts to what he is doing and that it is different then we treat anti-American or anti-Christian speech.

As "an act of patriotism," the media should not cover the burning, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said. She also said, "It's regrettable that a pastor in Gainesville, Florida, with a church of no more than 50 people can make this outrageous and distressful, disgraceful plan, and get the world's attention"

I guess it's ok to make flippant comments like this Charles but I still think his actions will cause our troops even more trouble. I should give a **** if it makes someone mad who's already in the fight. I just don't want our guys to have to fight every swingin' **** in Afghanistan over some coward's actions. Of course, anyone who wants is free to join up and put his body on the line to defend this idiot's rights.

What are the facts? Again and again and again--what are the facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore devine revelation, forget what "the stars foretell", avoid opinion, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable "verdict of history"--what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? You pilot always into an unknown future; facts are your only clue.

You actually believe this, Brian?

Okay, fair enough. I'll elaborate a little on my comment.
My only point was that anyone around the world who decides that this is the final straw that drives them towards acting out in anger or with violence towards the US or our soldiers is more than likely someone who is simply looking for an excuse and probably hates the US already and is on the verge of acting out. i.e. If not the burning of the Koran, it would be another excuse for hating the US and acting on that hatred.
People here and world wide persecute Christians, lampoon God and Jesus, burn American flags, Incite violence towards the US, etc... on a regular basis. The Koran deserves no more or less respect. The rest of the world (as well as our own President and many leaders) hates American exceptional-ism. We as a nation should not stifle our citizens Constitutional rights out of fear that people that already hate us might get their feelings hurt. No matter how stupid the exerising of said rights are.

I am going to plan my own Islamic Protest. We will have women in bikini's cooking bbq pork and serving it during an Islamic day of fasting.
I think it is crazy that we have to be sensitive to Islam but can degrade everyone else. I think it is petty of him, but I find it rediculous that political people are telling him not to. When will the US government stand up for US citizens over other countries citizens. Go ahead, burn the dang think I don't care. If it is ok to burn the flag, and insult Christianity, than this should not upset anyone either.
Fishtafarian- Fish are more than just a hobby, they are an obsession.
110 gal Tall (Angel Community)
29 gal (Planted Puffer)
10 gal (snails and small planted)
5 gal Hex (shrimp)
Do you all not see the irony in one Christian just announcing the burning of one book causing hundreds of thousands to actually freak out, burn the American flag during their protests, and shout "Death to America!"?
But this pisses me off. If this does not cause a hatered for Islam I am not sure what will. To threaten this action makes me hate them with passion, and I was rather tollerent before. It makes me think of them as non civilized and uneducated.
"Muslims consider the Quran the word of God and insist it be treated with the utmost respect. At least one cleric in Afghanistan said it is the duty of Muslims to react and that could mean killing Americans."

Thanks for clearing that up Charles.
Let me explain where I get my thoughts on this subject. First, I'm not casting aspersions on anyone's strength of faith.
When I heard about the first plane hitting the first tower, I was working beneath the federal courthouse downtown in the underground parking garages. My reaction was fury at what I considered the most cowardly act I'd ever heard of. Later, I wondered if I'd have had the guts to keep flying that jet as I saw myself hurtling toward that building. Then I thought about how much strength of faith it must take to REALLY believe you're doing what God wants and that you'll be rewarded to heaven instantly upon dying as a martyr (their words, not mine). I mean, these folks blow themselves up almost daily, believing that they go to their reward for doing so. I, having no faith, don't think I'd have the guts to fly those planes into those buildings. Hopefully, I'll never have to put that particular action to the test.
So, in my mind I've established that they are extremely strong in what they believe their religion is. They don't just talk about it, they live it, every day. Now, their toilet training (the fundamental things they are taught from birth) tells them that they must read their holy book daily and pray so many times a day along with the societal rules they're taught. When I compared that strength of faith to most of the Christians I know, I found most Christians lacking the discipline these muslims have. I mean, how many Christians do you know who won't eat pork? To my knowledge, God never took that back.
Don't misunderstand, I'm not exhorting one religion over another; I don't believe in any of them. But with this fanatical belief system comes equally fanatical responses to certain stimuli. Burning a Bible in front of a Christian may buy you a punch in the snoot, maybe not; depends on the Christian affronted. Burning the Quran in front of a devout muslim and he's enraged to the point where he'll kill himself if the act will kill you... because he's taught that this is what he's mandated by God to do. Is this actually what the Quran tells him to do? Dunno, I can't read Arabic. But it's a sure bet that that's what his Imam taught him. The Quran apparently has as many different interpretations as the Bible does. In one country the women must wear burkhas, in another, a simple head scarf is sufficient.
I've known many muslims over my lifetime who I've worked beside, had meals with and whose homes I've visited. Religion aside, they seemed much like us. I sincerely believe that they're not criminals just waiting for the chance to kill us.
What are the facts? Again and again and again--what are the facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore devine revelation, forget what "the stars foretell", avoid opinion, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable "verdict of history"--what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? No one has stifled his rights. All people have said is that he shouldn't do it.
Well that sounds an awful lot like the Mosque discussion, only now the tables are turned BUT in this case Obama had a quite a bit to say about the "Wisdom" of the decision... Didn't he?
