Now I am opposed to what the church plans to do. But its within their right. But what I find is funny is that. Muslim groups are talking bad about this and the US in generally. Yet where were they when people in the name of Islam attack innocent Christians? And at the end of the article it talks about how Muslims are threatening violence to Americans if the church goes through with its plans. How does this disprove that long standing feeling for many people that Islam is a violent religion that harbors hatred for everyone not Muslim? Why do Muslims get to incite violence when someone defaces their religion with no repercussion, but when Christians want to they are viewed as bigots, idiots, and etc?

You do know that Mainstream Christian and Jewish leaders have come to the defense of muslim people and publicly expressed their disapproval over anti-muslim sentiment.

I wonder if we'll ever see islam return the favor and come to the defense of the Christians.....?

This is being done by this preacher for the sole reason of stirring the pot. While it's within his right, it will have no positive effect on the world, and will likely put our soldiers in more conflicts in Afghanistan. IMO the guy's an idiot and doesn't care who gets hurt by his actions.

Where they have burned books, they will end in burning human beings.
(Dort, wo man Bücher verbrennt, verbrennt man am Ende auch Menschen)Heinrich Heine, From his play Almansor (1821)
German critic & poet (1797 - 1856)I never feel the burning of literature ever begins something good, it seems to perpetuate an atmosphere of fear and intolerance. It is certainly their rights to do so, but I hope they realize that for such a small church that they are dragging all Americans with them.

He said today that as far as he's concerned, "They can worship, build mosques, etc... We're aiming at the radical muslims that want to kill people."
Aiming what? He obviously doesn't realize that the whole world is watching this and he will only accomplish solidification of their resolve to destroy America. Those muslims who were, prior to this, in support of American efforts in the middle east or at the worst, fence sitters are now adamantly opposed to us. It will galvanize hatred of us in a way that few incidences have. &%_*#$@ moron.

My question is where is the ACLU? Where are the flag burning liberal lawyers that fight for 1st amendment rights at the drop of a hat? The federal government just questioned this man about what he wants to do. A general of the army spoke out about what he wants to do. How is it ok for the federal government to question him and asking him to stop. Yet when mosques in this country are recruiting men for holy war on infidels or "artists" are putting the cross in urine or elephant dung the federal government arent allowed to question them as it encroaches on their 1st amendment rights. Do you all see what a backward hypocritical society we now live in? My point of this post wasnt what he was doing but how this society reacts to what he is doing and that it is different then we treat anti-American or anti-Christian speech.

Brian, I doubt if many care that he's burning this book, per se. It's the inevitable backlash that will result from broadcasting the intent and subsequent action that scares folks. I don't agree with burning ANY books but if he thinks it will serve his God by doing so, more power to him. But why announce it to the world ahead of time, if not to enrage muslims in general?
Personally, I'd like to see him get on a plane, fly to Kabul and burn it there. Then maybe the mobs would shoot him in stead of the soldier over there following orders. The way he's doing it doesn't subject him to any repercussions, but sure adds some to that soldier's life. This makes him not only a moron but a coward too.

Playing devils advocate. But do you think this will put our troops at harm? I mean how is it any different then what they are facing right now before this event? They are already in harm whether he was going to do this or not. Those that use this as a reason to justify their actions in attacking Americans were never friends of us anyways and wanted to hurt us anyways. Their actions are only proving his point and goal which is to drive out the people who hate us into the light. You are right in Kabul he couldnt do this but he could desecrate Christian, Hindu, and etc symbols. The reason we fight is for people to voice their opinion without harm. I honestly believe that the people who come out and attack American civilians and soldiers in the name of revenge for the desecration of their holy book are cowards and were going to do it no matter what because they hate us and they are violent criminals. This event didnt turn someone from being indifferent to America to violently opposed to America. Because America isnt burning their holy book this pastor and his congregation is. Everyone wants us to say well Islam isnt attacking America its crazy people who are Muslim. Which I believe is true, so if Islamic people want tolerance and equality then they should realize that America isnt attacking Islam its certain people that are Americans. Its the same thing
