Move the fish indoors for a while into empty the 110

Let the roofers complete their work

Scrub out the pond making sure that there is no nails, and other strange things in the pond that could be potentially hazards to their health.

You're right, we are going to have to drain it.  I hadn't thought about nails in the bottom.  That's something to consider doing tomorrow.  We've got the filter and carbon running on it now, and we'll see how it is in the morning.  I'm with you though...it's going to need to be dredged for hazardous materials.

8O Wow, what a disaster. You know if you need help tearing into them I'm really good at that. Especially when it comes to defensive animals. I have a very bad temper that I can bring over if you need it! I've been wanting to use it on someone.

Our roofers did the same thing last year when they put on our roof. The didn't tarp mine. I was picking nails up for weeks on the ground and the pond. There are still some in there I can see. Just too lazy to fish them out. They will start rusting if you don't take them out.

Update on the koi.

Everyone looks okay today.  Still not behaving normally.  They still aren't responding to us when we go outside.  Usually they notice us and come begging for food.  Good news is that I no longer see the oily sheen on the surface.  Of course that could be due to the agitation the regular filter and the carbon filter are causing.  I think I'm going to drain it down again and see what I can fish out.  I've got a pretty long net, but maybe getting down in there and feeling around for stuff would be better.  Of course, I'd go in with some old tennis shoes on in case of nails.  Well, here I go....

My roofing/remodeling guys left the magnet they use for picking up nails if you want to borrow it, they won't be back until Monday to work on more interior repairs.  I think they'll be looking for it Monday when they return.

That's because they're scared!  8O  They must have a spy on the box. They know they are in for a whippin when they come back. :badsmiley: They're going to wait until your not home, sneak over, fix the roof and leave really fast. They won't even give you the bill, check your mail a few days later and it will be there.

Then you can mail them a bill from the fish doctor. Give me a day or two and I will write up the bill and make sure it's wayyy more than the roofing bill.

Well, then they should probably know that I work from home...I may NEVER leave!!  

We completely drained the pond.  Moved the koi into a huge bin we keep just for this purpose.  I filled an entire garbage bag with crap that was tossed into the pond.  And I can't even tell you how many nails.  Good news is that just about 15 minutes after returning the koi to the pond, they were swimming around and being much more active than they had been.  

I'm still keeping an eye on them, they could take a turn for the worse...you know...and need to go to the fish doctor.   :wink:

If they happen to leave it again, I have no doubt I will be needing a magnet again.  But for now I think we got it all out of the pond.
