Lol...no one I ever knew hurt themselves with lawn darts, the small parts of the KOOTIES game, or swallowed a single lincoln log or tinker toy. We just knew not to eat the parts, chew on pipes (lead hysteria was after my young years), throw sharp things at each other and he//'s bells...we never went right inside the door to grab the .22 (we knew was RIGHT THERE) and blow our friend away for taking our hamburger. Seems to me it all went downhill when schools did away with recess. All of life's major issues at that age were solved on the playground

Hahaha! My mom used to say "Do you want me to give you something to cry about?" and we would both shut up. We knew that she meant it! We would be loud in the car and she would pull out the flyswatter she had hidden next to her and start swinging blindly while driving... That's how I learned my manners! :P It wasn't abuse though, it was discipline! I never once believed that I didn't deserve the butt whippings I got...unless my brother framed me...but, he would get it from me later.

Hell yeah! I could hold my own on the playground!

We had a swingset in our backyard that wasn't cemented in the ground and we would both go to swinging at the same time and the legs would literally come off the ground. We would TRY to knock it over! I remember climbing a rickity latter on to the roof of our one story house just to jump off of the roof! Man, we were some crazy kids! I would make my brother crawl through the ditch-pipe under our driveway just to see if he would fit! Nevermind the snakes and the broken glass! He never got hurt though!

im tellin you. hell when we had beef we played dodgeball. now schools wont let them play cause its violent or something stupid. oh my god. get real pepole.

I heard something the other day on the radio that some states have outlawed the playing of "red-rover" and "tag" and "hide and seek" in schools because it singles kids out and the kid that never got picked would feel bad... That's a bunch of EDIT!!! We used to always pick the smallest kids in "red-rover" anyway because we knew they couldn't break the chains! LOL! It kinda smells a little bit too much like communism to me...

Hey I remember way back when I turned 5 or 6 and getting a toy tool box! The hammer could hammer nails, the saw was made of metal and did have teeth, pliers could pull a tooth out....LOL

Heck, I remember being in Kinder and you know how the room would be divided into differ areas, well they had a would shop area in my class. I remember it well, hammer with nails, even a saw and a vise. It was kiddie version mind you but real enough I cut a small board.

No kidding times have changed. Anyone know the name of the recent country song that the lyrics are about this very subject? I cant think of it at the moment. Basically it mentions stuff like this and us turning out alright. Not everyone got picked for a sport, but it was ok. Cool song.

I don't have kids but my pops beat me for anything if I was out of line.....I was stubborn and learned late but I learned and appreciate it all!

I know when I have kids they are gonna get any chance they give!

Ask any asian kid how it is.....think these kids that are calling the cops have it bad imagine an asian kid getting beat even more for crying out loud.

Man, that's rough... I don't think my mom and dad really hit me all that hard back then, I think it just kinda hurt worse because I knew that I did something wrong and I was being punished. I mean, yeah it hurt, but I don't remember the pain as much as I remember the lessons...I guess it's kinda hard to explain.

And about the asian kid thing, I am I guess you could call a "asian kid of this century" and while I know my parents have good intentions, sometimes their old fashioned thinking gets in the way of realistic new-age-american thinking.
