Your statement would depend on the intent of said person to steal from the service provider. Furthermore, the statement assumes that "various businesses" are not paying their internet provider for the ability to allow additional users to get onto their network.

I'm not going to debate whether it's morally right but review Texas Penal Code Section 33.02. Breach of Computer Security. It says, "A person commits an offense if the person knowingly accesses a computer, computer network or computer system without the effective consent of the owner." The penalty grade ranges from misdemeanor to first degree felony, depending on whether the person obtains benefit, harms or defrauds someone, or alters, damages, or deletes files.

I would like to point out that wifi is not broadcasted internet signals that you just pick up and use. The internet is a transfer of data. Data is passed back and forth in packets to connect to a website and so if you are using someone else's wifi, your data packets pass through their hardware... essentially digital trespassing. The radio analogy really doesn't apply because radio receives a broadcasted signal. It doesn't send any kind of signal back or place any burden on the transmitter's hardware. It is less like radio and more like walking into an unlocked house and taking a dump in their toilet. All your crap goes through their plumbing and if you clog it up, they pay for the plumber, not you.

naw..you wrong bro. Wifi comes from the router. If he is access the internet from his laptop...his infor goes straight thru the router and not the computer the router is hard wired into.
