    Re: 140 Discus Chronicles

Of course for the obvious reasons but on the same note there are tons of Discus tanks that are planted.... and IMO if you are gonna use plastic plants try and make it pleasing to the eye.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, EK.  I'm not crazy about plastic plants either (I don't really like anything plastic, I don't even like plastic cups) but his 140 looks great IMO.

Hmmmmm....  if you have a JD with your Oscars, that means I can probably have one with my Paratilapias (which are alot like oscars in personality), right?

Thats great to hear about the JD I was wondering how he was doing. I knew you would take good care of him. Well I have the plastic plants until I can get annubias and Java fern to grow out. I do not want to have a lot of light so I am limited in the plants I can have in the tank I tried the all natural light from the windows and I am getting algae that my pleco doesnt want to eat so I will either need to get another or reduce the light coming in I havent decided. I have the temp at about 82-84 range. These guys didnt want to wait at all so pretty cool.

CF- They're rare, very aggro madagascar cichlids....

Mine are still juveniles, but this is what they look like as adults:

It's a very good looking fish too...

No offense, but that is one mean looking fish  8O .  I'd hate to meet him in a dark tank alley

LOL- they're really pretty in person.  Their spots are irredescent and, well- they are a bit mean.  But I'm not in their food chain so we get along swimmingly!

thfl, jds will do fine with paratilapias,

i have had jds with Para. Pollieni(Para. small spot
), and Para bleekeri(aka para. large spot).
both are very similar to your para's, and jds lived happilly with them for 2 years,  this was in a 75g.

i had a bleekeri, large male jd, Amphilophus red isletas female, and 7 red hook silver dollars inthis 75g for 22 months, and all lived very happily.

just make sure the jack dempsey is the same size as the paratilapias and you should be fine.

jds are kinda like oscars, but they are  alittle more skiddish.

some other cichlids that will go well with your para's are

                                Green Terror
                                Severums
                                Chocolate cichlids
Green texas cichlids(carpintis) not the regualr texas(cyanoguttatum) which are much more territorial and aggressive.
                                oscars
                                salvini cichlids
                                hypsopherus nicaraguense
and most species of the thorycthis genus, (aka firemouths, azureus, and blue mextico)
                                hope this helps.
