ok well i am going to call the trip a complete success, im not back in houston yet. im relaxing with a beer staring at the wonderful waves of the beach. i caught a great many fish. i KNOW i have at least 7 golden topminnows (a type of killi) and at least a dozen or more of Least Killifish. i believe i have around a dozen or more pygmy perch as well. i gotta get them in a tank to see their colors a little better. but they dont have the bands that sheepshead minnows have and a different body then the least killis. i did not take home any sailfins or gambusia, but i caught a whole ton of gambusia, i didnt try for any mollys but i saw some, and some of the bigger perch. i may go fishing fishing in a little bit but havent decided yet.

ok im home and everything is in a tank. i have at least a dozen or so of both pygmy sunfish/ and least killifish, 9 golden topminnows (they are in separate tank) and a few ghost shrimp and baby craws (cant tell what type now cus they soooo small) Im gonna pull out the ghost shrimp and craws from little fish tank tommorow as i add more plants. i can say for certain that the least killis last better for longer in a bucket. i lost several of the pygmy sunfish, about 7. so originally i had almost 20 of them, mostly female by the pictures i see online. and they are small. i cant wait to fatten them up and see their colors. i think MB is coming by tommorow so maybe she can bring her camera. and i can get pics loaded. but im crashin. i will keep yall posted with updates as to how they are doing and if/when im going on another trip, either back to Winnie or possibly Chain-O-Lakes

Awesome! Yeah, just let me know how you're feeling later on tonight, I can definitely bring over my camera.
Sorry about the losses, though. That's too bad. :( I really would like to see the chrysotus...see if they're any different looking than the 2 I have at home.
What field guide do you have? I'm wondering if it's the same one I have. I learned at the ALA Convention that a great one for Texas was just published earlier this year, maybe last year. With real pictures and everything. :) I'm gonna have to get that one pretty soon.
its the freshwater fishes of texas guide. its drawings so no real pictures, had to look online for those. and id didnt have least killifish in it but there were plenty of pics of those online as well. you will just have to see. i pulled the baby crawfish out of the little fish tank along with the ghost shrimp and put them in with the larger killies, now im gonna put something in there for them to hide in, if nothing lese live food for the killis.

yes cool site. so we are agreed that they are pygmy sunfish. really cool. apparently the book i have is mostly pictures. cool book. MB has taken lots and lots of pictures. So she will load them all real real soon. she says monday. anyway the fish are doing ok. the goldentopminnows are eating frozen mysis. the pygmys and least killies got kinda interested in frozen cyclops. i am gonna try baby brine tommorow. we will see what happens. some of the least killis have already dropped some babies. and the pygmy sunfish are kinda stalkin them pretty sure they cant eat them cu they are too big for them to eat, but i may be wrong. if anyone has Scuds, or microworms, i may need them soon. gonna pm Spot.

well the pgymy sunfish are not the toughest fish ever, have lost a few more but still have lots. I have added more plants to the tank and also switched the bioload filter with an established one to make sure i dont get an ammonia spike. that has seemed to calm the tank down a bit. since i havent gotten them to take any frozen or flake food (the least killifish looked at least interested in the frozen) I had to start hatching my own Baby brine shrimp. we will see how they do in there. I will keep yall posted. also i got some blackworms from Fish Gallery, gonna try to raise those for when they are larger.

Hey it looks like my goldentopminnows may have spawned in their new tank on some of the floating Najas grass. i have my fingers crossed, gonna look up some breeding info on them. here is a pic of what the males look like. also where they dwell in florida too

Didn't know FG had blackworms, I bought some online.... From what I've read, they are slow to reproduce but can reproduce by 'division'. Meaning, just cut them in half and split into another tank, or feed half to fish, leave other half in worm tank. Most of my fish have gone just nuts over them.

Acually have been a little busy with some of the losses and getting tanks stabilized. the least killis are droppin babies like its going outa style, and it seems that i have finally stopped the pygmies from dieing (crossing my fingers) i am not sure if i am heading back out this thursday,so as to get back at the ditches before they dry up or not. i need some feedback as to whether or not anyone can go again this thursday. if we go i want to leave earlier and come back earlier, because i promised to take my mother out to dinner
