I went collecting again today, this time all the way into Louisiana, just across the State line to the welcome center, and rest area. There is a lake there and I got LOTS ot least killifish, golden topminnows and others I haven't all identified yet.
It's a long way I guess for most folks, but if you're going to the casino, it's on the way, just take the VERY first exit, drive to the west end of the parking area and walk over to the lake and voila!

i went fishing there a long time ago, should be a great collecting spot. my normal spot isnt that far from the state line but it has been fairly messed up since Ike. maybe i take longer trip when i get a chance, but dont have time right now.

Notably absent were any Fundulus chrysotus [B]or least killifish, which is what I was really after. Apparently Ike really wiped the little guys out, or pushed them further inland.
I talked with a TPWD agent today and he said some of that road (Hwy 73) was under 10 to 12 feet of sea water.
I am sorry to hear that you didnt get any leasts. i had my colony get hit by a disease and lost them. i took it hard and havent been back for anymore. they are really cool fish though. the ones i wish were easier though are the pygmy sunfish, those are super cool, they just dont do well in captivity unless you have live food, and i just dont have the time for that.

That quote is from my post of Feb 18th on a return from LA around Winnie. My post of March 30 was about another trip collecting in LA just inside the state line. and I got LOTS of least killifish, and LOTS of goldspot topminnows and mollies, so many that I just quit because I didn't know what I was going to do with them, and I don't want to waste them. I guess I probably could have kept on in the same spot for an hour and still have been raking them in. anybody interested just PM me and I can explain EXACTLY where it is...
