Nice. Good to know! Will make sure they're getting plenty of frozen food supplementation and keep an eye out for more eggs this weekend!

Yes! They've already started cleaning off a rock again, same pair. I wonder how long it takes the female to get a new set of eggs. Any ideas?

Thanks Tom! Yeah..... I knew that, having kept both synos and plecos, but somehow it didn't register that the plecos, bring nocturnal, would go after the eggs while mom slept. Lame. They're out now though, and I did an 80% cold water change today and then fed bloodworms, mysis, and cyclops. So we'll see how the next couple weeks go!

Bee; Sorry to hear about the mishap, plecos are notorious as egg eaters almost as bad as Synodontis catfish. Neither should be kept in a tank where fish are spawning. Remove them and hopefully the next spawn will be a success.

    Good Luck!

    Tom

It's all good. Novice mistake in trying to breed delayed mouthbrooders. Every nocturnal fish except otos will eat eggs at night while the mom/dad sleep. I'll pull out those darn plecos today.

Sorry to hear about that Bee, wonder if that is the case then what are the chances that this is indeed their first spawning attempt or perhaps they have had a bit more practice...

Couldn't sleep so went to check out the tank... And saw one of my plecos eating the eggs! There are only 4 eggs left. Grrrrr I'm getting rid of these plecos tomorrow!

We shall see! Some people have great luck with the first spawn in a group, and others have only had good luck when separating the parents.
