Nah. They breed slowly and some of the young do get eaten as was mentioned before. Plus, there's a market for them in case you end up with too many! :) I've had my original two for 2-3 months and I have about 6-8 actively moving young assassins.Originally posted by Totenkampf View Postgood to know, this goes against alot of the 'common' knowledge i was reading and you may be on something specific to the water we have here. they dont get out of hand like MTS will tho do they? All bleeding stops eventually...

well mnemenoi gave the 3 of them. 1 which is located on the main tank. and the 2 bigger ones with the shrimp, as he had them wih the shrimp. since i have located the eggs, i will place this filter on my 10g and have them hatch with out a predator near them. meaning i will leave the parents on the 3.5 and having the babies on the 10g where the shrimp will migrate shortly. now i jsut wonder how long for them to be ready. my better half scream when i yelled, holly f#@% what are those eggs. she was like no, you can not get another tank to hatch them. you have 3 tanks now.75g Tank,

I have read reports of them eating shrimp and shrimplets, but I think this is a very RARE occurance if it occurs at all. I have a lot of assassins in my shrimp tank and there are tons of shrimp and shrimplets. Dense vegetation and a well established tank with plenty of biofilm seems far more indusive for shrimp breeding and yielding higher results. I allowed my 10 gallon to mature for 2 months before I introduced my shrimp and it was a jungle already with a myriad of micro organisms throughout the tank. I got only a handful of shrimp and it took a month or two before I first starting seeing growing shrimplets, they seem to hide very effectively until a certain size.Originally posted by R_sustaita View Postsee but the shrimp did not hatch. i was reading one someones thread that assassin snail do eat shrimplet so maybe they are mine. as since i have low numbers on that department they eat them all. i have only 7 RCS and about 20 endler fry.In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

Agreed. Plus, those shrimplets are frikkin fast compared to the assassins.Originally posted by mnemenoi View PostI have read reports of them eating shrimp and shrimplets, but I think this is a very RARE occurance if it occurs at all. From the time I noticed a berried yellow female in my tank to the time my shrimplets actually came out of the moss and started moving around was about 2-3 months. And at that point I was moving stuff around and realized I actually had 3 different generations of babies. Be patient... you'll see 'em. :)Originally posted by R_sustaita View PostEK, they were berried when i got them, and they were still berried for 2-3 weeks. at 1 point i did see the shrimplets on the glass but its been like 2 weeks now and i dont see them anywhere. in 2 weeks they should had grown little right? All bleeding stops eventually...

Yeah, Rick...I wouldn't worry about the assassins eating shrimplets. You've seen our tank, it looks like an assassin snow globe. They're punching them out like crazy. And we have no problems with our shrimp numbers. The assassins don't get fed anything special in our tank, either- they will find something or eat each other. Seems to be working.
As far as what happened to the skrimp bebehs, could be the berried females dropped them due to stress...they could just be hiding...I think that a well-seasoned tank w/good water params, more plant cover, and patience is all you need to get them breeding."I think that God, in creating man, somewhat overestimated his ability." -Oscar Wilde
