Ever get a test kit? Test, test test! I don't know if you mentioned it in here somewhere, but is the tank you're moving the shrimp to cycled?

i have the ph and amonia test only. and it wil be precycle. well it was going to be precycle as i was going to move the 3.5 filter to the tank but i cant use untill the snails hatch. i will move the drift wood, plants to the new tank. but i do have a new filter so i may jsut start it and start the cycle untill i get my used filter to make the cycle faster. oh and the tank was not clean so the glass has some algae and bacteria left.

Run your new filter on an existing tank that has the largest bio load for a few weeks and use that to jump start the new tank.

I would say bring it over here, and I'll run it on the 10g awhile for you, but you'll just end up with more snails. Mwah-ha-ha.

Also- get a test kit. Then you can be sure when the cycle's done.

once the 29g is well balance, i can removed the filter and leave the big one there and will still be a fast cycle.

Since the tank is running with fish already get your hands on some seeded(dirty) filter media to help the cycle process.

I have plenty if you need.

Bio filtration host beneficial bacteria which is what keeps the inhabitants alive.

Beneficial bacteria colony will only be in equivilent to the bio load(anything that produces waste). This is what breaks down waste/ammonia and converts it into less lethal forms till the end cycle is nitrates which we as keepers remove by diluting the water through the form of water changes

Seeded filter media is what comes from another tank which has been established already to basically "instant cycle".

Bacteria blooms occur when the beneficial bacteria explodes to "catch up" to the load, whether its not enough or from die off from too much. IME having excess bacteria is better than not enough.

Also since the beneficial bacteria colonizes throughout the tank you lose some in transition but the filter media would host the majority. Reasoning behind finding seeded filter media from a tank with a higher bioload that what you are setting up.
