The receptionist told me this morning that they will not re-imburse me. I told her that the first thing I was going to do when I got off the phone, in that case, was post on Cichlid forum what their filter did to my fish and what a bunch of clownshoes they are. I will post on various clubs' sites around the country also. With a nice photo of the bag with 60 dead fish in it.
I know it was that filter.
Any idea how I could get the water tested for toxins? Can I have the city do it?
You'll probably have to take the water sample to a full-blown chemical lab for analysis.

Sorry you lost your fish... that really sucks out loud.

The issue I dont think is going to be in regular water tests which we can do
Its going to be toxins which you need to figure out what they are.
    Its obviously from the filter.

If the filter never shut down then it sounds like something was in the water either from your tap or from chemicals in the filter. Gasping for air could be chlorine or other toxins.

WOW -- yeah all I can say is I am truly sorry for your loss. I love my Chilambo's too :)
I would get the canister out of the system and I would do a 100% water change on your tank before I would let any fish touch the tank again.
Make sure that all the water is out of all canisters still attached and make sure that all media has been rinsed.. If there is a poison or heavy metal in the water, then you want to get it all out
    Again I am so sorry..

I doubt it was anything in my water.
This wasn't a new tank. It is established and the colonies were established. Nothing was off or different when I got up this morning except all my fish were dead. I was just putting this filter on to flesh out my current, established filtration.
I did run tests on the water and it was all perfect. Two Chilambo adults and 3 fry made it out alive, they were at the surface gasping for air.
I rinsed the media and filters out with tap water. The only thing I can think of is the strong smell this thing emitted. I could smell it in my living room and kitchen when I took it out of the box. That is leached into the tank and killed them.
I have a bad feeling about them stepping up to the plate and paying for replacements. I will tell them in my initial converstaion once they open (California time) that I will have a lawyer talk to them and see if that changes anything.
I did nothing different and nothing changed except that that filter was put on.
I am so sad. I loved those fish. They were amazing!!!

    AHHHH! thats a major bummer!

Did you leave the established filtration on the tank when you put this new one on?

Did the filter stop running? Or was it still running and your fish were dead? If its the latter then I am not sure that its the canister it must be something in the water.
