Floating New Fish in Breeder Box

I read some where that dad will start killing his sons. Man, nature is hard core.

For a 55 you can house 2 breeding pair. Each pair will take each end of the tank.
30 gallon would work but the alpha male will kill other males. I also had success keeping them in a 40 breeder, but off course more space is better.

One of the cichlid forums had said my 30gal is fine for my guys. Barron, call City Pets and see if they still have some. About a week ago they had a tank full. Except for mom and dad my guys are all tiny. I've had 3 spawns so far.

So I think I'm gonna pull the trigger on the Brichardi just need to find some first lol

i have seen them in tanks as low as 30gal for a smaller colony, but they do start to control their population a bit. if there are a group of fry and they want to spawn again, i have heard of them eating a young group to make room for new fry

mine were in a 56gal...allows for a good size colony to space out

For a colony of Brichardi, 55 gallon minimum.

yes that is one way to keep them in with other fish. a lot of lateral spacing for once, and the rocky setup lets a few fry survive. i ended up with hundreds because my tank is more a cube shape, so that no swim zone was a good portion of the tank.

Yes, they were in the 150 gallon with other Tangs and lots of rock. There are couple of fry survive for hiding in the rocks.

So I guess if the tank is large enough it is 'possible' to have a spawning pair with other fish. I'd be too chicken to try after whatching my little psycho. lol

It was not that bad, but they did have a "no swim zone" around the spawn site. Off course all the Tangs was very interested to eat the fry and would do that when they could.

Ahhhhh, that explains it. If they don't spawn you will probably be ok then. When my fry get large enough I "might" take one out and put in my 75gal mixed tank, but I would not want a spawning pair in there pushing all my much bigger guys up in to a corner. Some pople can't even put their hands in a tank with spawning brichardi without getting attacked. I guess those little canine teeth can hurt. lol

you will know when they start spawning. and they dont stop. typically they do eventually take over a tank. they can get quite aggressive, even to fish much larger than they are when protecting eggs/fry. i never lost any fish, but there was an invisible wall none of the fish wanted to pass
