Floating New Fish in Breeder Box

Are yours spawning? I see our particular brichardi in mixed tanks all the time and people say they're pretty much ok as long as they're not spawning. I've seen people calling spawning pairs "the brichardi death squad." LOL My small one is absolutely vicious. I'm guessing it's the boy?? It's also the one that does the cleaning before they spawn.

They are not spawning that I know of.

Thats what I have a neoplamprologus. I didnt know they were suppose to be a holey terror. I have had them for a while they seem to keep to them selves. I never see them chase any other fish. However I have had two fish die at night lately but I thought it was because of my redfin borleyi he seems to be the only one that chases other fish every now and then.

I read so many things about them killing and terrorizing other fish. Add to that the fact that mine killed their other 2 brichardi tank mates within the first 3 days of owning them and I'm just too chicken to add anything to the tank. Some times I wish that I could add something else but I can't imagine it not being killed.

How long have you had yours with other fish?

Do you think he was dishonest? I've heard other cichlid people say the little guys are less sexually threatening to the adults? No???

If my memory is correct???? Seems like I read that the Johanni males will kill male peacocks to get the females.

I think with him not knowing me he was trying to point me to more mild temperments, which I prefer. I think my socolofi is about as grumpy as I'd want to deal with, but I've read that they're very aggressive to their own kind. I noticed tonight that it looks like he's grown some more lately. Some day I might get it out and see if it's really a he.

Johani and red zebras are Mbuna and fairly aggressive as any Mbuna would be. He didn't lie to you about Demasoni. Those are nasty and need to be in big group to reduce aggression. I have a couple of them in my mix tank, and they are the BOSS.

I thought it was interesting that he pointed me to the peacocks considering that's what I've had for years, and temperment wise is more my style. We also talked about acei which you know that I have. Oh, and we also talked about how it's often easier to introduce young fish in with adults rather than introduce adults in with adults. I was telling him how my little 3/4" acei picks on my 6" acei but not the other way around. LOL VERY nice man.

Johanni and red zebras. Of course I love Johannis but I've read about them. He also pointed out how pretty but truly evil the demasoni are. LOL He talked about how the demasoni have to be in a large group. I felt like I didn't have to act like a complete air head to see how bad he'd lie to me.

I stopped by fishland today. They have a 150 and 125 back to back. The 150 is much taller and I'd have to stand on my head under water to mess around in there. LOL Not interested in that. The 125 is gorgeous.

The man there was so nice. Pointing out super agressive fish telling me that no one likes them when they get big. lol I've NEVER had anyone warn me about fish like that. I really felt like he was looking out for any potential purchase that I might make. I will definitely go back there. And I want that 125g!

My desire is to put my existing fish in a longer tank. I would love to see Big Blue have more space to swim back and forth. He doesn't do much travelling but who knows, maybe he would in a larger tank, and of course I have the 4 new acei that should eventually grow nice and big. I will definitely check out fishland.
