Did the book have anything interesting to say about the fish?
There is very little info out there on them.

Sounds like a keeper! I'm have to track these fish down. I know Steve with VA had some last year. I do not know of any other time, but I'm sure they been in the U.S. before.
It's just a waiting game on these. I think exporters can get them....I think it's a matter of them not being to popular rather than them actually being rare.
From what I know they are not deep water fish or isolated to the congo side so they can be collected relatively easy.
I can picture a 6 footer with 30 of these bad boys in it!
id say something but its a family fourm lol,i guess, sign me up,sweet..................love when the females also look different than the males, very cool.......
The pictures you see on Cichlidexplorer came from Gernot but were Ebbo's (Chris's) fish. I've talked with Chris several times about getting some fry but all the adults died before they were able to do the dance.
I've contacted Alexander Kotrschal from the Institute of Ecology and Evolution, University of Bern in regards to "Simochromis Pleurospilus". He had also studied Pseudosimochromis Curvifrons and told me they are not as aggressive as Simochromis, however the dominant male will kill all other males in the tank. As for the size, they stay relatively small 4.5 - 5". The species from the norther part of the lake has the cool looking blue color. The fish is available and he was willing to give me his contacts but the minimum was 10 boxes or something.
