Update! Hi everyone! I've been busy as heck with school so I've had to stay off the board. I have most of my tests done, just one final for sure, possibly two (depending on how well I did on the last test for one class). Otherwise, I'm pretty much done and can spend a little time enjoying my tanks now!

I made a HUGE mistake of getting some fish from Xtreme, including 3 julies. The decimated just about everything in the tank, and they also died. In fact, only 1 fish that I got from Xtreme survived, a little yellow leleupi (Neolamprologus leleupi). I lost all my plecos and most of my paracyps (sorry, Tim :().

Finally, everything settled down and the remaining fish did well. I tried to get some cyps through mail order, but the guy kept not calling me back. When I did get a break between exams, he had sold some of the fish I had wanted. Then he didn't call me back again so I gave up.

With a mostly empty tank, I decided that I would no longer try to do a Tang tank. I just cannot get the fish.

I went to Fish Ranch II to replace my plecos. While I was there, they had a tank full of electric yellows (Labidochromis caeruleus). I had fallen in love with them long ago so I decided to get a dozen. Now the tank has color and movement!

The paracyps had breed and I had two fry that had survived a month after being spit out, but the electric yellows killed them off the first night. I'm down to just two female paracyps so no hopes for more breeding. I've given up on them, unfortunately.

My next step will be to find fish that I can mix with the electric yellows. I know they're mbuna, but they're not nearly as aggressive as most mbunas. I'd like to mix them with more of the lesser aggressive cichlids, but I'm not sure which ones yet. I haven't had time to look it all up. I'll post a thread asking for suggestions.

I have a number of plants doing well in the tank; although, the electric yellows have nibbled holes in some of my favorite ones. I realize that cichlids and live plants don't really mix so if I lost the plants, so be it. I'm enjoying having them in the tank for now.

I'll try to get some pics later, maybe after I've completed all my finals. Just imagine the tank as pictured before with some added plants and a bunch of electric yellows swimming around.
    Vicki

      :(

I'm sorry to hear about the disaster.

I'll buy the two remaining paracyps back from you if you don't want them.

Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

Tim, I would love for you to have them. I hate that I've lost so many already, and since I'm looking to change direction on the tank (away from Tangs), they really have no chance now. PM me on when would be a good time for you.

As far as the losses, I'm blaming it on the julies, but I can't be sure. Even the julies died. All the fish I got that day died except for one. Once those fish were gone, everything stabled back down again.

I've been pretty frustrated with being unable to find the fish I want for this tank. I'm hoping I'll have better luck by trying to get something other than Tangs. I really don't want to go with another community tank nor do I want an aggressive mbuna tank. So I'm trying to find something in between. If Tangs won't work, then maybe Malawi cichlids will?

I've been thinking about getting some new pics. Not much has changed other than some added plants. I want to add some more rocks later.

I'm still not sure what fish to get so I'm thinking of taking the easy route and going with the traditional labs, haps and peacocks. I want to talk to Ultimate and Dave's Fish before I decide for sure.

I'm glad to hear that! I would like more variety of fish, but I also don't want fish that just kill each other. I'm thinking of getting just males for the haps and peacocks so I can get a variety of different ones without having to worry about hybridizing.

But if I got tropheus, then I'd just just like the rest of you guys. I gotta be me.

The tank looks great with the plants added... I like the idea of adding all male peacocks to the tank.
