Yeah, most houses have copper lines when running hot water. Don't know the effects on fish. But get you a carbon bottle and you will be covered either way.Originally posted by cichlid1409 View Posttemp in tank is ~80
temp of new water ~ cold as hell
probably the problem right there but i'd rather not use the water heater while filling the tank.I ate my fish that died.

never thought about any of that...I have been filling my tanks with the water halfway hot and halfway cold...so that the tank normally sits at 80.3F...and after the water change the tank is usually at 77.8ishF...my breeding has also picked up lately...A LOT in the chimba tank. The breeding has gotten really busy after I added my Petros...I think it is cause the chimba stay under the rocks a lot more.250gallon-Wild Angels, community

A number of people have reported on other forums that a big temp drop (-3 degrees) may help with breeding. They are hypothesizing that in the spring time colder water flows into the lake from rivers. This singles the fishes that it's spring and time to start spawning. I really have no idea one way or the other.Originally posted by newb View Postnever thought about any of that...I have been filling my tanks with the water halfway hot and halfway cold...so that the tank normally sits at 80.3F...and after the water change the tank is usually at 77.8ishF...my breeding has also picked up lately...A LOT in the chimba tank.
