  • 40g troph tank progression

so its been a week or so and my trophs are still in my 40g.
They quarrel here and there but there are still no frayed fins on any of them and the aggression is very low.

How long would this have to continue to conclude that they can safely be kept in this 40g or go to a bigger tank?

or is it never going to be ok to keep them in this tank?

    What the noob?

When did you get tropheus Mark?

Regarding the tank, it's going to go on forever man. Don't worry b/c tropheus fight all the time and what you see is normal. I'm sure you can keep them in there for almost 8 months before having to get a bigger tank. Do note, they will be a little stunted b/c the tank is so small.

    How long is the tank?

    How many fishes you got?

Man, sounds like Brian unloaded his BS on you.....J/K.

They could be kept in a 4 footer long term....in a 3 footer is going to be harder. Dubs are also better to keep in smaller tanks too. They are the less aggressive according to most accounts. I don't know b/c I never kept no dubs. If it's a must, I bet you can push it out to 8 months before having to upgrade. They are always aggressive to each other. But that deadly aggression doesn't really show up until they get to breeding....in most cases anyhow.

Less rocks might help in the long run also. Rocks means territory. Territory means male holding it down. holding it down normal consist of fight off other fishes that get into their area. Fighting can result in death.

maybe two, one big one at one end of the tank and a smaller one about 6-8 inches toward the center of tank. this will help the male to define this second rock as the end of his territory

Dubs are the most laid back Tropheus. They are entry level for most because it is the "gem" in my opinion of Tropheus.

There is no other Tropheus where the fry change and transform so drastically...there is so much difference between Duboisi and other Tropheus that it has been thought,...Duboisi deserve to be their own genus.

Regardless of all that, I kept a pair of Duboisi with 6 Rutunga in a 55 without a problem.

Duboisi can stay in smaller groups without the agression problems. The magic number for them seems to be 8.
