I am not able to stay late like some folks, and I feel personally dissed at the attitude that getting up Sat morn at 5:30 am for work makes me a less than equal club member.
The attitude of using the raffle as a carrot to produce late attendance seems a bit commercial, and if people buy raffle tickets, they would buy them when they get there. How would a later raffle produce more ticket sales?
Anyway, as soon as club biz is taken care of, and the raffle is held, what is left but the socializing?
Why would you want to keep people there later if they wanted to go?
The live raffle prizes have been in small plastic bags for hours and need to get put in better surroundings as soon as possible, right? Fish have feelings too! (don't they?)
Since I drive about 1 1/2 hours to get there in rush hour trafic, and it takes a while to drive back to Southwest Houston, I hope I wouldn't have to stop being an active member due to not being able to stay late enough to suit other members. The meeting doesn't start 'til 7:30, so being there 'til 10:30 seems like enough participation for those who have a tigher schedule.
There...I brought some whine!

Who is doing the dissing? I went back through the thread and I didn't see anything negative directed at you or anyone else for that matter. There was the one comment/joke about if the raffle was later, there would be more goodies for those who stayed.
I want everyone to feel welcome at the meetings. Whether you arrive late or leave early, doesn't matter. What matters is that you can enjoy yourself while you are there, that's why I drive over an hour in traffic to attend the meeting myself.
We made sure there was enough time for those interested in the raffle to particpate if they wanted to after the meeting. This one will be no different. It might be 30 min. to an hour, I think that is plenty of time. The raffle is a plus for the club and for the members. Everyone seemed to really have alot of fun, even if they didn't win at it.
So, if someone is giving you a hard time behind the scenes, talk to me in private.
I think philbert is just expressing his opinion about the talk of moving the raffle to a later time which IMO would be wrong to those that can't stay late or would make them feel as though they are being forced to stay by the raffle.
I didn't see any dissing just the mention of a potential diss if it were to happen.
me personally, I wasn't suggesting to have the raffle "LATE"....just later than last time as we couldn't come until 8pm and we had barely any time to buy some tickets and look at the items before they started pulling tickets out of the bags to announce the winners.
Well, I didn't mean move it to a SUPER late time, but it just seemed really rushed last time...We were trying to get the bags up and then it was announced that people could start putting tickets in...before we were through setting up... And before I knew it, we were drawing... I didn't mean to start anything, I was just trying to bring up an idea to prevent this again... Hopefully it will be more organized this time and everyone has a chance to get tickets in! Anyway, I guess I just don't want to make anybody mad...
Well...darn.
I didn't mean to sound so strident...I want to be a GHAC member, and I thought it was a serious proposal to keep people later.
On the other hand, no one made me mad, and I seem to have injected a note of strife where I didn't mean to.
Maybe it's the 101.5 degree fever I have, makes rational thought a bit difficult.
I will avoid further posting until I recover or expire (in which case I will have a medium post for me.).
