  • Re: Aquatic World

they can be kept in fw for a time while they are small, but like the figure 8's they have to be acclimated into brackish as they grow or they will die.....they are not true fw puffers.....

You should! He is a cool owner. sat down and smoke some cigarettes with me earlier yesterday. He gave me some point with the durso pipe issue I'm was having. And me order eheim part was already in.

To bad the fishes aren't going to really start coming in until it gets warmer.

really, :(  mine is doing great :?  hes in a 10g all by himself, eats like pig. maybe its not the water, but the amount of puffers you have, i have read up on them, and it appears they dont really like their own kind, at the fish store there was about 25 of them in a 30g, but 8 of them in a 60g, might have given them to much room, and aggreesion started.
this is just my 2 cents.

what do you feed him? I have 20 petricolas in with them. i was hoping they would eat pellets like Nicks Fahaka.  I don't think I will ever do this puffer thing again. If I do I will not buy them with 1/2 their tail eroeded off.

yea Mr Ed's cool.  I only got to see him once a year.when I bought him it was the same thing. I got 6 horse heads and after 1 wk had him left. hard to acclimate fish. I don't like killing fish. specially when I waste my hard earned money. for now I will keep the petrocolas and hopefully a puffer or two. I don't think they need salt yet. is'nt that a couple years down the road?

well, when i got my first puffer it was a green spotted......and i had him for about a month and he got sickly looking....
i did alot of research on it and come to find out it needed salt....and acclimation into a brackish environment...it died before i could get the hang of it....so they need salt while they are small.....

will the salt be bad for the petrocolas? I added salt for years to all my tanks. I quit when I read a article on skepticle aquriust. I just added 6 tablespoons to the 60 gal tank anyway.

i don't think that the petrocola's will do well in a salted tank....well salted enough to sustain the puffers anyway....
i add salt to all my tanks..."conditioning salt".....but marine salt is more harsh and the scaleless petro's won't take well to that kind of salt.....

they will do fine.... tanganyikan is not like other lakes in comparison to the mineral content.

Unless you are pushing the water parameters into brackish they will be fine.
