dude... all the difference in the world. =)

Have to mix them with my "magic bullet" food processor though, other than that it's hard to mix up everything.

          Hows yours?

Re: Group buy dry ferts from greg watson?

My brain.. it really really really freakin hurts. Good grief.

I've been reading as much as I can handle about dosing and the different methods and the oughts vs the ought nots.... gaaaah.

I've come to the following conclusion.

              1, direct dry dosing.

I had been mixing everything up in my blender then pouring it into the big tank.. but just for the sake of experimentation I did a dry dose on my smaller tanks.. except for one of the chemicals (I think the Mono Phoblably Bukakke.. the smallest quantity white powder) everything pretty much dissolved within 3 seconds of hitting the water anyways.

              2. Reduced light time

I had been running the lights from 8 am till 9 pm.. I've cut back to 10 hrs the last few days and am going to go with 8-9 from now on, I don't understand totally why this is just yet, but from what I've been reading.. that seems to be the best way to go about lighting the plants.

              3. Dosing days

6 days per week, everything but trace on sunday, trace on monday, back and forth until sat (nothing then) and restart sunday. Considered just doing a three day dose for the sake of easyness but I figure this way it has something metering on constantly.

              4. Not going to do huge water changes for a while.

I've been doing 40% weekly changes.. something I read said basically, the plants prefer slightly older 'stable' water over constant new supplies of water, where algea prefers the constant newness of the water.
I don't know enough to dispute it, but it sounds good, so now I will be doing a weekly 20% change instead and see how things work out.

              5. Hot dang I need more substrate.

I've got about 1.5 inchse on the bottom of the tank.. and... my stuff keeps floating up really bad.. there just isn't enough bottom to keep things off the top.

              -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anyone else having wierd revelations lately?

smokin_cache has a pretty good deal on eco-complete.

i havent used any of the dry ferts except for the trace since i still have the seachem stuff but i have set up a dosing schedule that looks real similar to what im dosing now. i got it from the EI method over at apc and the days i changed to mon-sat like what im dosing now with sun. being w/c day. i plan to dose dry along with high light and pressurizes co2

from what im doing and what i see evertwhere else you dose NPK every other day.
Overview The Estimative Index (EI) coined by Tom Barr is a straightforward method for providing nutrients for a planted tank. The idea behind EI is simply introducing an excess amount of nutrients within an aquarium, throughout the week. This excess of nutrients floods the water column and feeds...

I gave your (ek) calculator another look (trying to get a hold on my cyanobacteria problem) and it looks like i've been dosing about 1/4 what I need to. my 1/4 teaspoon of kno3 is only 3ppm in my 75 gallon tank.

What have you 2 been dosing and do you have any results yet?

anyone hear from ramius lately? hope he is well.

                    i have been dosing this

                    +/- ¼ tsp KN03 3x a week
                    +/- 1/16 tsp KH2P04/K2S04 3x a week
                    +/- 1/16 tsp (5ml) Trace Elements 3x a week
                    50% weekly water change

                    20g
                    96w 6700k 8hrs photoperiod
amquel plus and nova aqua plus when changing water
light to no stocking on fauna
                    heavily planted
co2 at 30-40ppm but at one point it was much higher.

slight algae on the glass but nothing that a little wipe doesnt clear.

Re: Group buy dry ferts from greg watson?

sounds like I should be dosing about 1 teaspoon 3-4 times a week then.

Maybe 1/2 teaspoon daily to make sure I don't upset my lil discus. at least untill he's use to 10-20ppm

Re: Group buy dry ferts from greg watson?

i have read some stuff that just hypocrite to itself so im trying to find out myself.

over at rexgrigg's site he states not to dose kno3 and kh2p04 but the EI method has it dosed on the same day so im not sure what to do with that now.

also i like to run the high light cause i think it helps and i like how my plants are growing under the high lighting but i have had to do some adjustments now but will not know for sure till the new tank settles in.
