ok, count me in for the $15 as well.

i had time to search around for ways to dose and such today and found a decent tacked thread over at apc about ferts. http://www.aquaticplantcentral.com/f...ing-guide.html

Re: Group buy dry ferts from greg watson?

Alot of the seachem products like flourish and flourish excel are just a small part of the puzzle. flourish (which I used) was just a trace element. flourish excel is all organic carbon.

"Flourish™ is rich in gluconate iron, manganese, calcium, magnesium, potassium, inositol, choline B12, biotin, and other factors that have been determined to be beneficial to aquatic plants."

"Flourish Excel™ is a source of bioavailable organic carbon. All plants require a source of carbon. This is typically obtained from CO2, but, may also be derived from simple organic compounds (such as photosynthetic intermediates)."

"Flourish Nitrogen ™ is a concentrated (15,000 mg/L) blend of nitrogen sources. It provides nitrogen in both the nitrate form and the plant-preferred ammonium form. However, no free ammonia is released because the ammonium in Flourish Nitrogen™ is complexed and unavailable until utilized by the plants. Flourish Nitrogen™ also provides nitrate for those plants that can readily utilize nitrate as well"

"Flourish Potassium™ contains 50,000 mg/L of potassium suitable for the natural planted aquarium. Potassium is one of several elements that are vitally important to maintaining a vigorous level of growth in a planted aquarium. Potassium can become depleted in a rapidly growing system or when the source water has a low mineral content. In these cases potassium could become the limiting factor to growth. Use Flourish Potassium™ to prevent potassium depletion (signs of which include yellowing in older leaves) and maintain the highest level of growth. "

and so on and so on.   Flourish potassium is only 5.8% K2O VS the 100% pure stuff from greg watson.

Re: Group buy dry ferts from greg watson?

        Cut and paste from http://www.rexgrigg.com/ferts.htm

Why would you want to use bulk nutrients. Well here are some numbers.

If you are dosing 60gallons of water with Flourish Potassium you would need 100 ml to get to 20 ppm.

If you are dosing 60 gallons of water with Flourish Phosphorus you would need to dose 48 ml to get to 1 ppm.

If you are dosing 60 gallons of water with Flourish Nitrogen you would need to dose 30 ml to get to 10 ppm.

Flourish Potassium is $6 mail order for 500 ml. So if you dose once a week that bottle will last you 5 weeks. Cost would $1.25 a week to dose potassium.

Flourish Phosphorus is $7.50 mail order for 500 ml. So if you dose once a week that bottle would last you 10 weeks. Cost would be 75¢ a week to dose Phosphorus.

Seachem Nitrogen is $7.50 mail order for 500 ml. So if you dose once a week that bottle will last you 16 weeks. Cost would be 47¢ a week to dose nitrates.

Total cost for one dose a week with Seachem $~2.75. Note there is no shipping factored in here and there are some rounding errors.

To dose the same tank with bulk nutrients from Greg Watson

        Nitrates 2¢ a dose.
Phosphates .2¢ a dose. Note that is 5 doses for a penny.
        Potassium 4¢ a dose.

Total cost for one dose a week with Greg Watson 6.2¢

Seachem products cost 44X as much per week.

Note these prices do not include shipping charges and there are some rounding errors.

So that pretty much settles that one.

And then you can go to here download a calculator that will let you figure out how much of these bulk chemicals to dose into your tank."

So I did the math and came up with
          2 x CSM+B Plantex 1 lb                 $8.59          $17.18
          1 x Mono Potassium Phosphate 1 lb. $3.42  $3.42
          8 x Potassium Sulfate 1 lb.                $2.17 $17.36
          4 x Potassium Nitrate 1 lb.                $2.17 $8.68

the total is 60.59, split 4 ways its $15.

If anyone wants some measuring glasses or bottles lemme know.

Or I could buy a 2L bottle of flourish excel for 20 bucks plus shipping and have it last in my tank for 6 months.
I was referring to this post where you list the ferts and then state "Or I could buy a 2L bottle of flourish excel". Sounded like you were debating the group buy vs a bottle of seachem excel which is just a co2 alternative/synthetic.

I read through rexgrigg's website before, really good info there.

I was just pointing out the economics of it all.

I will have to divide it up. i have 1 bag of mono potassium phosphate and 2 bags of trace to divy up.
