  • FREE!!!! Silver Dollar.

I have 1 silver dollar, grown....that I need out of my tank.  Come get him and he's yours for free!!
He has some kind of funk that I can not clear up, treated for fungus, bacteria, parasites ect.
had the funk since september or so of last year and does not appear to be contagious as no other fish have it and I have had none die.
He eats well, but his skin and fins look bad.
I am clearing out the tank he is in so I can start over with it and have no place for this guy to go.
    Any takers??

he is too big for a 10 and if you can find a place in my house to put another tank, I'll live in it myself, lol....already gave up the dining room and a sofa for tanks....

I guess so, but you can pay for him if you want   , he looks like his skin is peeling....maybe some one else would have better luck getting his skin cleared up.  I know I sure haven't had any luck with him so I'm figuring that maybe some one else can make him better as all my attempts have failed.

            I'm open to suggestions.

Have you tried Melafix and Pimafix together? I have had good results treating wounds, fungus and fin damage with them.
If that does not resolve the problem them maybe you should try some clove oil and humanely euthanize him.
              :skull:
It may be kinder that way. He cannot possibly have a decent quality of life.

I can relate to this, and I currently have tank space.  I would love to help your fish but I am curious about Nickintex comment about humane euthanization.  What does clove oil do?  I know starting out about a year ago I had some accidents and remember once having to euthanize in a way that could have been considered inhumane.  The guppy fish had internal worms and was emaciated to the point of no return.  I bagged it and smacked it as hard as I could to make sure it felt no pain.  It was a very low moment, it wasn't exactly shooting Old Yellar (it was a f-ing guppy), but it still was very hard to do.
I would like to help your fish out, but if it is living unpleasantly, euthanization might not be a bad option.  As long as you don't do what I did.

Clove oil acts as a sedative in fish. You place the fish in a bucket of aquarium water and slowly add clove oil until the fish becomes very sluggish. Then add a larger amount to cease all metabolic functions. The same concept as humane clinical euthanasia for dogs and cats. Mild sedation first, then overdose. Thus the concept of "putting to sleep".

"Clove Oil and Tank Water Method [of euthanasia]

Buy pure clove oil. You can get it at a health food store for under $10 for a ounce bottle. Put the fish in a medium sized mixing bowl in his own water from his tank. In a small jar or something with a lid (I use a cleaned out jelly jar) mix the clove oil with tank water. Put the lid on and shake it like crazy over and over until the liquid in it is white. Then pour a little into the mixing bowl with the fish. Swirl it with your hand. The fish might fight it just a little bit and then slow down. Then pour a little more in and swirl again. He should just go to sleep and appear dead. If he doesn't, try a little more of the clove solution, always shaking very well before an addition to the bowl. When he goes to sleep, leave him in the solution for a good 10 minutes and then put him in a small cup or zip-lock baggie and put him in the freezer. Pain free death. Very humane. We should all go so easily."

Lucy, you might as well keep him and keep trying or just euthanize him. I highly doubt he'll survive the stress of changing homes.

:?  But she says that he's been like this since September, and he's eating well. I wouldn't go as far as euthanizing him, especially if everything else seems fine, but his skin and fins are a little "funky." Apparently he's not contagious, either. Maybe he just gets picked on a bit.

I'd take him if I had room! I seem to be having the same problem as you, Lucy!

I with the pro life side here, a change in venue or environment maybe just what he needs. Although SD tend to be quite shy and spooky, they are fairly hardy from what I remember.

he does not seem to be suffering, he acts very normal....just looks bad.....I wonder if he just doens't have skin problems.
the entire tank crashed back around the first of sept.  Had some doc creep and he hasn't been the same since.  I would hate to put him down as he seems fine other than the ugly skin.

I did 3 rounds with the pima/mela fix, I tried binox(?), I tried methylane blue and malachite green and have done salt treatments.  ugh!!  with no results...he funk doesn't really seem to be any worse or better.

really am starting to think it could be genetic.

Can you post a picture of him?  I'd just like to see what his condition looks like.
