Come on bro. Another weak attempt to redirect the point. Fail!

I'm not going to defend or explain something I didn't say.

Again, you just made my point. They didn't spend the $30 because a DVD player IS NOT a necessity. PRIORITIES my friend. They have them and most don't.

And you can get a Trac Phone for $20, or you can really splurge and get the cheapo from cricket for like $30 and then spend 35/month for the service and cut out the cost of the home phone since it's unlimited.(I've known a lot of broke people who went this path. They have a cell phone so are the living above their means) This stuff is gettin expensive. I better slow down.

I can take you to ANY poor neighborhoods in Houston and those ghettos are lined with cars sporting 20inch rims, stereos booming, punks wearing chains. I can also take you to any trailer park in Conroe and show you all the 4x4's with $1000 lift kits and $2000 worth of mud tires.

A member/friend is a Firefighter in the ghetto and more often than not he tells us about going on a call to the projects and going in and these people have 50inch flat screens, stereos and game consoles but call 911 to come and provide medical services because they don't want to go to the doctors and pay a bill or go to the hospital.

Example: Our Housekeeper and Yard guy are both legal immigrants. They both have full time jobs. On their days off and after/before their full time jobs they clean houses and mow yards. They have kids and insurance and work hard without begging for handouts. They didn't have a DVD player until we gave them one. They work hard and are proud. They are not doing anything special and the fact that I need to describe what they do as anything other than normal is the problem with all the beggers out there.

I mean $hit man, Traci and I both have full time jobs (working 50 to 60 hours a week each, sometimes more) and still do consulting and run a business on the side.

I'll make you a bet. You bring me ONE on the take entitlement begger who you know that says they can't live without my tax dollars. If that person doesn't have a cell phone, big TV, DVD player, video game console, rims, bling, doesn't drink or smoke, or have any other non essential luxury items. I will give them a lawn mower so they will have a job mowing yards. After that person mows 4 yards in my neighborhood for $25 a pop they can keep the lawn mower, the $100 from yard work and I'll give each of you a nice crisp $100 bill on top of that. My guess, you won't find that person so my money an my lawnmower are safe. For now until all the beggers out there decide they want Obama to take it from me.

and while D was the one who tied the two together (obviously pushing healthier food choices on kids today might make them more inclined to choose healthier ones in the future) immediatly after (and when I say immediatly after I mean the next post) guygeek started in with the talk about coach purses and laziness.

I feel that I need to point out that while guygeek does take an extreme approach to one side, it is in response to an extreme approach to the opposite side. The truth is that not everyone out there who needs help is abusing the system, but at the same time, there are a lot of people out there who do abuse the system. We know people in both groups. And we will give a hand up to anyone who actually does need the help, absolutely. But admittedly it is frustrating to watch a system that is in place for those in 'need' to be damaged by those who just 'want'.

i didn't see a lot of far left opposition in either of these two threads

I'm just saying that I think we like to pick and choose when the government can have a say in how they live. No one has a problem with the government not allowing kids to purchase alcohol. But when the government tries to tell fast food restraunts they can give away free toys in kids meals unless they offer healthy alternatives to substitute for the fattier ones IF THE PARENTS CHOOSE TO, and that crosses the line.

You're right, it's exactly the same. They went after (and are still going after) cigarette companies. Making it so they can't advertise using Joe Camel (as if a cartoon camel is the reason ANYONE ever starts smoking). And making it so they can only advertise in print ads. Same with alcohol. And most recently removing the word 'Light' from the cigarette packs. I still don't understand the logic behind that. Tonight I saw a story about how they want cigarette companies to put a photo of a cancerous lung covering 1/2 or more of the cigarette pack. Seriously??

This is all to say...I'm against all this useless overhead. When does it stop?

Quick question, just to turn the discussion back on course. How is what SF is trying to do different that how the local and federal enforce alcahol and tobacco laws. It could be said that while yes, cigarettes and alcahol are bad for children, that it is the responsibility of the parents and not the retailers to make sure their children don't buy and consume the products?

Furthermore, if you don't have insurance or you're worried about your kid being fat, hows about you put down the 40 and take the game controller from your kid, grab a lawnmower and get your fat kid and your broke a$$ out and mow a few yards. You can make enough money to pay for a Doctor's visit and your kid can burn off some calories without having to beg like some broke down crakhead.

Who knows, you may even learn a little self respect.

This post is not directed at anybody in particular but is about everyone begging for a handout

I wonder if they are teaching kids about the four basic food group!
Almost as well as they are teaching them to pluralize properly...
