    Delock have questions.....

    Delock been noticing the wave of layoffs and job cuts recently. Delock also have noticed that retail sales are down this year greatly!

    Delock would like to know what does the effect of gas being cheaper have to do with the scenario above? I figure if it took $95 to fill my truck this summer and now I can now fill the same truck for $35. Would this not all Delock the abliity to spend the rest on goods and services.

    Delock ain't stupid but something not adding up here. Is  the current employment crunch months behind of the gas prices? Would this happen if gas was still $3.75?

    I have found that Houston is one of the few cities where layoff's and jobcuts have not been nearly as highly hit as other cities around the nation.
    When I spoke to my Dad who is in Atlanta, he reported me that was going on out there in their city and it seemed a lot worse than what I see here.
    I dont think there has been a hard hit in Houston, for several reason, one being that this is an oil city and many company supports this industry which there has been layoff's in but not nearly what we see north of us.

    If the gas prices had been high I know for a fact that I would not have been out buying any but a few gifts for the kids rather than what I was able to do this year..

    Gas influenced me a lot on many levels, and I think it did for many others since Houston is a town that you have to drive all over the place for.

    Just my 2c

      well it's interesting... As I said before, China was buying oil at an alarming rate for the Olympics. It's over now and their consumption is way down and prices are way down.

      Now it could be that supply and demand drove the gas prices up and then down, or cichlifan guilted the fat cat oil execs into reducing their big fat bonuses to reduce oil prices. Either way oil is down but so is the stock market and that is typical in a questionable market when a power shift in government is eminent.

        Delock understand the questionable market during a power shift from one party to the other. Delock also understand China large consumption of oil pre olympic.

        What Delock need to know is why this country face with declining sales and high unemployment. Delock wonder if all these bailouts are going to trickle down to Delock!

          you can bet on it Delock...... :wink: ...where do you think they're getting the monies to bale all these companies out with?....it sure isn't going to be out of their own pockets......

          i knew if cichlidfan kept it up they'd feel guilty sooner or later....... :wink:

And as a corollary, the market for technologies is shrinking.  As a world leader, it is important for America to provide systematic research grants for our scientists. I believe there will always be a need for us to have a well-articulated innovation policy with emphasis on human resource development.
