I still have a Garcia mag reel I bought in 1981. It casts super smooth. It's one of my backups.

I had a similar experience helping save someone. Blue Jeans and wading = discomfort and disaster with good conditions lol. Dang that Hawaii vacation sounds crazy!!!

Actually, even with the nice scenery drowning is one of the worst ways to go.

Here is what you can do with a spincast and the right fishing hole. Got tired after the 3rd day in a row of reds, so I decided to spice it up a bit with a speed race rod.

                      • It nice to see so many people here that like to fish or interested in learning how too. I seem to never take a camera when we go fishing. So sorry on pictures from me. Wished I had them now But I am willing to go try to catch some more...

very nice free. I like the little rod & reel.
What you use to catch fish is up to the person fishing. I have Shum.Pen.Bark.Abu.& Zebco. I love my Abu. Its what I choose to fish with. I have a Zebco that is older then me and still works. Even a cain pole can catch fish.

What about line weight? 20-25lb? It's a bit overwhelming.

                          • Depends on type of fish you are going after. Highest I've ever gone was 17lb test when fishing for big black drum or red fish around structure. The key is to use a strong leader to prevent break offs from fish rubbing against barnacles, oysters, and the like. I wade fish all year with 10lb in the bay in the summer and in the surf, sometimes using 17lb leaders. In the winter I use 8lb with 17lb leader. 20-25lb is overkill unless you are fishing for sharks or something. I once caught a 50 lb kingfish in Belize fishing with 17lb test with a steel leader.

                            • Hell if you just want to muscle it in go with spiderwire line and you can put 50lb line and itll be the same size as 17lb i believe you wont have to worry about anything breaking your line

I'm looking at an 808 Ugly Stick combo spooled with 25lb line for $29.
