Question for environmentalists

Why is that when we are hit with one of the coldest winters all of the Al Gore kool-aid drinkers goes into hiding and no longer talk about global warming? Is it that the current climate conditions dont jive with your hope of speading global warming fears?

This happens about once a decade and has increased to I believe two or three times this decade

Now I believe in protecting the environment I am from Austin so I have some tree huger in me in that I cant stand the Houston zoning and construction laws which allow you to flatten a whole area build a building and plant baby trees. Unlike Austin which requires you to keep so many existing trees per acre. But I cannot stand the fear mongering done by the Gorites and find it amusing their disappearance during unusual cold spells. A hint to you Gorites climate is an ever evolving situation generated more by the earth itself than anything man could possibly want to do. If this isn't the case can you please explain to me how there have been several ice ages and periods of heat well before humans knew anything more than how to start a fire? Simple answer the Earth controls its own heat through plate tectonics and solar radiation not man. I will now step off my soap box.

I dont know if you missed that show that ventura is in....but they got really into it and asked many scientists about it and they all said it was all just for money and control and it is all bull!!!...and that its actually getting colder!!

I think Brian that they're looking at yearly average temps which ARE on the rise. They look at things like glaciers disappearing and arctic ice sheets getting smaller, icebergs being calved more than usual in the antarctic. Is this a normal climate swing that the earth goes through? Dunno... but there are some scientists on both sides of the arguement. I don't know who to believe, but I feel kinda like you. The earth goes through natural periods of ice age and temperate. Whether our activities contribute is beyond me...

Facts:
Global Warming or as they are now calling it, Climate Change is a huge business. Al Gore's investment firm (Generation Investment Management) http://www.generationim.com/ is the largest shareholder in the Chicago Carbon Exchange http://www.chicagoclimatex.com/content.jsf?id=1 which is the holding company for worldwide carbon credit sales and exchange.

The current science of global warming is no longer relevant as we know it completely ignored the medieval warming period and uses faulty computer models and as we have seen over the last couple years, our amazing and ever changing planet is NOT WARMING any longer.

Synopsis:
Al Gore took the Pop Science (Science used loosely) of Global Warming and combined it with the emotion driven fervor of environmentalist and exploited both to create a world trading market that would ultimately make him an extremely wealthy person. He is nothing more than the Televangelist leading the cult like church of global warming selling the feel good salvation of carbon credits from the doomsday of a fiery hell on earth created by evil and greed of man and big corporations.

I can tell you all exactly what happened. Three years ago, I moved from my modest home in a crappy neighborhood to a nice house with a big-a&& pool. So at that moment, all Global Warming came to an abrupt halt. The only way I see to reverse the trend is to invest in ice skates and hockey equipment for the pool, which will cause an immediate temperature spike.

Seriously, IF we really play a part, and IF the entire USofA did everything we could, the rest of the world's contribution makes such a huge impact (take R-12 for example) that we are small potatoes and really don't make a dent.

And if you believe everything you hear, it isn't an issue since we'll be out of fossil fuels in the next week or so anyway.

It would probably be easier if we all just sent Al Gore ten bucks each, so he could retire and quit bugging everyone.

It is not complicated; unusually warm periods are proof of Global Warming. Unusually cold periods are normal temperature variations.

I don't consider myself an environmentalist, but I do believe the earth is getting warmer. It is also scientific fact that most scientists now believe. The debate is the rate at which the earth and seas/glaciers are warming. The vast majority of scientists believe man is accelerating the natural cycle of earth's temperature swings. So, if there is one huge cold spell for three days, does not mean the average temperature measured over many years is not increasing.

I grew up in upstate NY. They have what is referred to as the "Finger Lakes". Geologist's agree that these lakes were formed by huge glaciers melting from the artic millions of years ago. So, yes, earth does have natural temperature swings. It is the recent unusual rate of change is what is in question now.

Gore. Who cares. This is not a political debate anymore! The new political debate is now if there is such thing as evolution. You know, the Darwin debate. Many believe there is no such thing as evolution. So it is creationism vs. evolutionism. Certainly is interesting when you read about the lakes in Africa.

How do we know they weren't this rapid last time we went through a warming cycle?

I think it has something to do with science and study of geology.

One thing I know for sure, it is never wise to debate politics or religion with friends. It is much easier for friends to debate whether or not Colt McCoy will make a good NFL quaterback or not?
