    Re: PETA Investigates Petsmart

i'm proud of the petsmart i used to work at, there was no unethical treatment of the animals, bedding was kept clean, fresh food was provided everyday, if not twice a day.  petco is the place to investigate, their store smells like crap, and they have merchandise all over the floors, and their associates are slobs and don't know what they are doing.

    just my two cents.

        Re: PETA Investigates Petsmart

The Petco in clear lake isn't all that great, their are always  dead fish stuck in the filters.  The Petsmart here is a little better, a larger variety, and healthier looking, however some of the employees at the Clear Lake petsmart are horrible.  One night while looking around, I saw a girl transporting a shipment of fish into their proper tank.  As she was dumping the water and the fish into the display, a few fish dropped onto the floor (which was a couple of bags of gravel.)  She quickly glanced around to see if anyone was looking, laughed, and continued like nothing happened.

My fish from petsmart actually survive longer than 2 weeks unlike the fish from the petco here.

We've got a few bad employees too. Its my biggest complaint with my job. The work itself isn't bad but the people I work with can be awful sometimes.

I wouldn't mind working for petsmart or petco to get the discount and to get the first scoop on sales.

hey do these places hire weekend or 1day workers?

depends on your manager, mine was great, i was doing 20 hours two summers ago, and then when school started, he put me on saturdays only for 8 hours, which was awesome, going to school and making a little extra money, the discount sucks, 15percent but there were a lot of things to take home. haha.

                    Re: PETA Investigates Petsmart

I have a feeling they're just getting started...from reading a little it seems that they're targeting the larger issue of actually keeping live animals for sale in stores. I wouldn't be surprised if another Petco investigation is next (they did one, I think it ended last year, about selling large birds). Their reasoning is that too many people come in and buy animals on impulse, and eventually stop wanting to take care of them.

                      Re: PETA Investigates Petsmart

MY ex-girlfriend is a Petco manager.  She trains people all the time, and the worst part of it is two things.  Employees who dont give a ****, and customers who will not take "NO!" for an answer.

At the wage rate most pet stores pay, your going to have to find someone who really likes the animals to do a good job in taking care of them.  Otherwise, you have a girl who laughs and does not bother to pick up fish flopping around on the floor, or does not clean cages like they need to be. Its a crapshoot on finding good people.

Then, when dealing with customers, the coroporation will usually side with them, because the customer is always right mentality, and the next thing you know a customer has a new aquarium with the fish, and then is back in a day or two with all the fish dead and is wanting replacements.

                      It is a endless cycle...

                        Re: PETA Investigates Petsmart

its tuff to deal with. i have been trying to educate some of our new aquatics people even though im the dog trainer now. a few are interested some are just silly teenagers (no offense meant i was silly when i was a teenager too) but i always tell them that they can refuse a customer service(as in not sell them fish or other animals ) if it seems like they will not take good care of them. but yes there are people at my work that will sell people anything just to make them happy. for example someone checked out yesterday with a 2 gallon tank and a red claw crab plus a large feeder comet. the tank is not enough for jus the fish let alone the crab. i could have killed them.  its so frustrating.

                          Re: PETA Investigates Petsmart

PETA is already trying to get Petsmart to stop selling large birds.  I read about it the other day.  The reasoning being these birds can outlive their owners.  Personally, if I was going to spend $1000 or more on a bird I'd go straight to a breeder.  In fact, when I bought my baby cockatiel earlier this year I did just that (not $1000!).

                            Re: PETA Investigates Petsmart

ROB281 just thought I would check, cause he is a buddy of mine and he is building a couple right now. He sold two to another friend of mine for like 675 each freshly built and it is sweet and shoots nice. 45 that is home protection, I have a 40 by the pillow, they do have much larger projectiles than the ar. I thought I read someone saying ar is to much for rabbits. I shoot rabbits and deer with an ar and it doesn't seem like overkill to me. One shoot and no chasing after it.
Peta should like that. I am sorry but if a private organization is starting to target the big chain of stores, maybe the stores would wise up and counter sue them. It kinda reminds me of the Rainbow Push Coaliation, don't have enough of one creed or sexually orientation of certain people and they sue, however they always settle out of court and recieve large sums of money to be quiet about some ridiculous claim. The accusation is always worst that what is true, but when the truth is revealed, do you hear about that? Nope, cause the accused ends up paying out a fat check to make it go away and 9 of 10 times there was nothing really wrong and they don't want the bad publicity. So PETA'a get away with this weak crap cause no one will hold these type organizations liable for bad accusations, instead they get paid? I guess I am in the wrong business. Me personally, I have not been to a petsmart or co in I don't know how long, not because of people, how clean it is or anything other than, the selection of fish I am looking is never there. Got tried of making the trip and leaving emptied handed. Just have found it easier to get the fish off the internet and even with the shipping cost it is still cheaper than going to the store. Yeah, I end with a few extra's but I get what I want.

What website do you order your fish from?  I've been trying to find a good place online.
