    Re: PETA Investigates Petsmart

as long as they didnt say they were there to investigate for peta it is no too hard to get a job at petsmart, especially if you have any pet knowledge. interesting enough in a list of demands that PETA sent to PEtsmart, they didnt comment at all on the care of the fish. all they wanted was for petsmart to stop selling birds/small animals/and reptiles. what i find interesting is that all of our animals and i believe most of the fish(including bettas) are captive bred. most rodents have alife expectancy in the wild of less then a year (predators and all) but ones in captivity can live sometimes 3 plus (for hamsters thats a long time)

I remmember reading ina BASS magazine a long time ago about a PETA member protesting a fishing competition of BASS. this fishing organization was basically the group that started catch and release and sport fishing a in fishing just for fun and throwing the fish back. and an oranization that likes to use barbless hooks. Notice PETA isnt going around the world and telling little fishing villages that what they do is wrong. but massive overfishing is occuring around the world why isnt anyone focusing on that instead of captive bred hamsters. im not saying that there are not problems and we need to work on them but the hobbiest is often the one leading the care and campaign about captive breeding so fewer animals need to be taken from the wild. and the hunter is one of the most adamant protectors of the animals he hunt because he wants that to be there for his childrens's children.

i also looked at some of PETA's oppositions sites if you could call them that. and they were just as extreme, and much less organized. it seems no matter what you do there is always someone out there who isnt going to like what you do. i find the celebrities the funniest, they will go on and on about animal cruelty and then they forget about the mining conditions in africa that supplied their nice jewelry. everything we used has to be made and someone has to make it. a lot fo factories are not the nicest places to work espicially ones not in the states. as for vegetarian. if yu choose not to thats fine one of my best friends is a vegetarian, hes really good at whipping up a great pasta dish too. i am extremely happy we live in a country where we are so wealthy we can choose what we eat with that many restrictions. but when someone says you cant eat milk or cheese because it came from an animal (thats not harming them in fact dairy cows get like the nicest treatment ever) i dont know about you but i would go crazy if i didnt get my cheese fix

Everyone has made some good points.  I agree with daisymac, if a place isn't taking care of it's animals then I don't shop there.  I think if I really want to make a difference I should take that a step further and call management but I normally don't.

just give me a steak already...

it is not the people it is the ideals that form them into extremist, which can have more negative effects than positive movements in the course of other people's lives. But their actions have gone to far, i am glad for an outcry. I am pretty much against everything, it is all going to end anyways... pursue a life without the stress

                Re: PETA Investigates Petsmart

well, I am sorry if the pictures above offended anyone not what I meant to do. pm if anyone feels it should be removed.

Anyways, I am not against stopping shops that dont bother to take care of their livestock or obviously can't take care of them I just don't feel that it is "fair" to target a place just because it's a big corporation of well known. I know alot of you agree that there are a lot of LFS or little pet shops around town that maybe shouldnt be allowed to have kids moreless keep/sell pets but those places have been up and running for a good while now.

As for no meat or whatever that is solely up to the person and that's not something I go judging by purely a personal decision. I have a cousin that chooses not to eat pork but I love me some bacon, her personal choice and nothing religion related. I commend you actually MaryBeth cause I personally could not stop eating meat even my salads have to have chicken in them!

Pictures didn't both me. Just look at it like this, each side of the line has it  extremes. I personally don't take pictures of what I shoot because I find it to be a waste of time. Dem critters need a cleaning.

It is typical of these type of organization, attack big business.

I wonder why they went and used AR-15's on the rabits though, that's a tadbit overkill I would think :?

yeah like most others, attack the big names cause it gets plubicity instead of going after the small fry which is where the problem lies.

Those pictures are not mine and if I were the ones to shoot them they would be split and skinned.

I had to shoot one of my pops cows one time, would that raise an eyebrow with PETA? Popped her a few through the noggin with and evil "assault rifle" ar15, oh wait I think that attracts the gun grabbers that are trying to get into office.

If you need to get rid of the ar15, let me know. Be happy to lighten the load.

                              Re: PETA Investigates Petsmart

I got chewed out today for missing a bowl of bird food. missed a hopper when i went to refill..

I do feel bad for the large hamsters. they ALWAYS seem to get wet tail. Everything else does really well unless we get a critter with an attitude. Sometimes they just fight for no reason.

If Peta really wanted change they would have worked WITH Petsmart (though Petco needs more help) they are usually very receptive to good information. I bet they would gladly accept free animal training for the staff.

I would suggest Petsmart spend more time training the associates, especially the high school kids, how to train a new animal buyer to care for the critter. Even if you can't get them to do EVERYTHING for the new animal at least tell them and try and get them to upgrade. Like today when a lady wanted to put 4 new molly/platty in her 5 gallon tank... i managed to talk her down to 2 and get her to buy an ammonia monitor (those lil color changing things you suction to the inside) not ideal but a big step in the right direction. I also spend alot of time explaining the nitrogen cycle to new tank buyers which i don't think the kids do.

And don't get me started on how many people ask for a goldfish and a bowl.

nope, it's a friend of mine that lives down in the Lake Jackson area, and the home security would definately be one of the reasons for use, although, I'm still fond of my .45 in that department
