You are correct.. a .243 is a necked down .308
Between 70-90grain bullet.. To me honestly is a little light for the bigger game, but it can be accomplished.

As a hunting rifle.. I am not going to deny you an aimpoint.. but aimpoints are really made for up close and personal shooting..

I use a redfield 4-12 x40 on my .308 but keep it at 8 power almost always. My .30-06 has a Simmons 6-20 x 50mm objective and is my best scope for low light situations. You can literally see at night with just a little moonlight. The .270 has a Tasco 6-24 x 40.

There are many good scopes out there. The trick is to get one you're comfortable shooting, with the correct eye relief for you. My favorite is my Redfield. When I put the rifle to my shoulder, the eye relief is perfect every time, and the bull-barrelled .308 it's attached to will touch rounds at 200 yards.

Make sure you get a good set of rings for your scope. Crappy rings will impair the scope's ability to give a repeatable sight picture and throw your rounds all over the place. I use Weatherby rings on all my rifles.

What are the facts? Again and again and again--what are the facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore devine revelation, forget what "the stars foretell", avoid opinion, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable "verdict of history"--what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? For that amount of money you can get some excellent scopes out there. Mark is correct, you want to make sure that you get some good rings with your setup. I ended up with leupold scope mounts.. They seems to work quite well.

                      Jack,

Honestly I would go look and touch and play with a rifle at either Fountain Firearms or collectors. The first time you go there, DO NOT BRING MONEY, because you will buy the first thing that looks good. Go shopping. Find what you like, make sure that it fits well in your hands etc. See what is out there.
Once you have collected your research information. This one, two or three rifles you like, then go on www.gunbroker.com and www.gunsamerica.com, and see what they want for the gun you are looking for (these are auction sites)
Go to http://www.sturmgewehr.com/ this is a Houston based sales board, and at times you can get some excellent deals from there too. Now this board has sales from all over the place, but sometimes you can get a deal where you are in Houston so you can do a face to face deal. You never know.
One thing to know. If you buy a gun bring cash, and deal with the sellers... the price you see is not the cash price you should pay.
Knowing what the gun is worth is important.. else you cannot negotiate.

Is that the bull-barrelled series? If it is, it will be heavier and you'll feel less recoil from it. Most of the production Remingtons shoot sub minute of angle right out of the box and don't need bedding. That may be an expense you don't have to incur.

                            Sounds like a good choice.

but how do i get it online, i was told it was illegal for them to send it to my home without some kind of permit... and i was also told that i will need them to send the gun to some kind of gun shop then have the gun shop transfer the gun title to me... or something like that

well, i want a free floating barrel, and the sps is not a free floating barrel model, so i figure glass bedding is the best way to go...
