I actually disagree on this. I think the best gun for home defense is a pump shotgun. When you "pump" it, the sound is sometimes enough to send the intruder running. I know a lot of people get the super rambo mentality of wanting to blow the bad guy away and NOT wanting to simply scare him away. BUT, you gotta remember that some of these bad guys are packing level II and sometimes level III body armor and possibly better weaponry than your own.

I will never shoot someone unless I am in fear for my life. And I will never point my gun at someone I don't intend to shoot. I like the idea of being able to scare someone away with the threat of being shot, but God forbid I am ever in the situation to have to defend my life, I don't want to have a moment of hesitation hoping to scare the threat away and end up being disarmed and killed instead.

I've had the privilege of firing a SAIGA 12 for a day about three years ago. It changed my mind about a pump shotgun. But I still have my pump shotgun handy though. sunrise

As far as the use of a pump shotgun for home defense, let us look at nature for examples of successful attacks. The lion, cheetah, dog and most animals all attack silently when they are successful. If the attacking animal announced their presence before the attack, would the attack be successful? Humans try to justify their actions and thoughts! That is why humans usually have rules or laws to guide their thoughts and actions. All humans have a basic instinct for survival. Some humans are more in touch with their survival instinct than others. The assumption that a pump shotgun chambering a round will deter an intruder is based on another assumption that the intruder values his or her life! There are humans that do not value any life at all! These are just my thoughts and ramblings on the subject. I sincerely hope that each of you does not find yourself in such a situation.

True, but Ill still take my chances homie. If he hears my shotgun, and still decides he wants to engage and I cannot stop him with 3 shots of bird and 3 shots of buckshot, I deserve to die. These 6 shots SHOULD be enough to get me to another weapon of course.
