  • Mangrove Tank Filter?

i recent got the 29 gallon with stand at the auction today and i was setting it up for my archer. i want a mangrove style setup and i was wondering what kind of filter i would use for it. i have a aquaclear 20 i was going to use but it is kind of short for it, will i need to put the water higher? i also have a mini sponge filter sitting inside right now cycling the tank.

    heres pics:

oh i wanted the swamp look and i was wondering how i would basically have a good filter for the water level being so low.

oh, nevermind the previous post then.

as far as filters for the low water level, your best bet would be a canister filter, i would use an Eheim 2215 canister, they run as long as the bottom of the intake is submerged.
and for a HOB filter for such a low water level, your best bet would be an Aquaclear, i would use an aquaclear 70.
i have an Aquaclear 110 on my 75g red eared slider turtle tank, and it is just over 1/2 filled with water, and it still runs great.

on a side note, the ac 70 will probably move the sand from whatever part of the tank its on, because of the far drop of the water.
it will stir things up quite a bit.
however, the 2215 canister will not do this nearly as much, because you can modify the outake to where it wont hardly disturb the water at all.

There are some plants that will grow leaves out the tank and I am thinking hopefully someone who knows can jump in here and give you the correct names etc.. and where to get them. Then put them in your tank and let the leaves / stem grow out of the tank and this will allow your archer to have places to aim their water squirt out at and put bugs into the tank. I am thinking you would have some fun with that :)

i had the aquaclear 20 that was in my tank, i put it into my 29 and made a ramp so the water wouldnt splash as much lol. water level went up a bit higher as well.

well, in the last month i have seen a tiger lotus growing outof the top of a 55g and just today i have seen a mssive amazon sword growing out of the top of a 215g.
so i would say they can, although im not sure how long the exposed portions will last

Could you post pics of those plants growing over the water surface?
That would be extraordinary. Can't wait to see them.
