    Re: Discus Thread

If the body were more red I'd say it was a Red Mellon.  Maybe he'll color up with your TLC and age.  His tail probably will grow back and I don't see any other signs of illness.  If he's by himself you might want to treat with him/her with some Melafix and see if you can get the tail to start coming back.

      Re: Discus Thread

I was going to say the same as Szidlon --

It looks like the tail is recovering.   Keep the water changes going because discus like Trophs love clean water :) :)

Thanks, Szid! Yeah, I've been changing the water often. If I don't see improvements in a few days, I'll add some Melafix.

I cannot wait to see pictures :)  I love Discus :)  I just decided this time around that I was going to see my life more with African fish than South Americans.
According to Heiko Bleher and the biologists he's been working with, there are three distinct discus species. They say the dna evidence has the brown and blue as the same species...not sure if all the taxonomists are on board with this data.

I picked up Jolley's starter discus. Very healthy bunch. I want to keep some but have too many now. Anyone want two 3 1/2"  red turquoise?

I haven't tried the Black Water Expert but I have tried the Kent Discus Essential and found no noticeable change in my Discus.  Since I don't use charcoal in my filters on the Discus tank I haven't found a need to replace trace elements and apparently they haven't either.  I'm not one to be adding stuff to water unless it shows a positive impact.   I would love to help out on rehoming the extra's from Jolley, but my big bruisers would surely not welcome them into the tank.  The minimum I size I feel safe in adding to the tank is in the 5-6 inch range.

Thanks for the welcome, FL.    It's dangerous territory for me, I know!

I'm definitely going with some type of red melon/red mellon discus for now, just from looking at a few google images. Thanks for the help!

Twitterpated = in love. C'mon, it's from Bambi!
