    Hi friends,

It's been a while since I posted last. I have the Discus community tank and I've posted a lot of images through the years.

Well after nearly three years in the world of raising Discus in a community environment I'm considering going a different route.

Currently I have 5 blue diamond and scorpion large adult discus, 2 male and 3 females. I have 2 Surinemensis Geos and 2 Juraparis. 6 Rams, 50 hatchetfish, and 100 black neons and 1 dwarf pike

My tank is the 150G deep dimension and its filtered by 2 Fx6s and 2 Eheim 2217s. My 36W UV is offline and broke. I've ordered a new one on its way from Amazon.

I've decided to research replacing all my Discus with other large cichlids that are hearty, colorful and interesting.

Can you all give some advice on stock choices. My focus has been entirely centered around Discus high maintenance needs up to this point. I'm now willing to try something new and different.

I'd like to make the stock change within the next month. Run another 6 months in the world of freshwater then I plan to trade up and go saltwater.

I am going the opposite direction. I started out with freshwater fish, then saltwater, then saltwater reef and African cichlids and now am focused on planted aquariums.

Tautog, how do you keep 50 hatchet fish alive? In the past, hatchet fish for me were like the ocean flying fish. They spent a lot of time leaping, most often on to the floor.

In my experience, a one inch hole can be enough for the hatchet fish to escape. These fish used to be cheap but most pet shops sell them for $4 to $6 each.

In your experience, what is the life span of a hatchet fish (that dies a natural death rather than the suicide paratroopers)...

I really like severums and chocolate cichlids. Allot of the same temperament but more active.
150 gallon - Mississippi map turtles, chocolate cichlids, red spotted severums

40 GB - Red Shoulder severums

if I was going to change again in six months,id look for 1 big fish.you not going to have time to grow out a group.when its time to change, you only have to move 1 fish.big red devil.once you've had him for awhile, you wont want to get rid of him.chocolates are awesome
and mellow for big cichlids but all the big ones ive had hated being moved.they can be moody.

I have a mixed African/Central American 150 planted tank with 8 cichlids. A lot of fun and little maintenance if any. Took a lot of planning but lots of color and lots of personalities.
