They can be difficult at the beginning but not impossible to keep! over the years I learn to add them to my planted tank as soon as the aquarium is cycled following a few simple steps.
The first is to turn off the Co2 since the night before just to make sure they won't suffocate! if you are using a substrate that is acidic and lowers your Ph/KH drip the shrimps and add an air diffuser.
A good tip when you buy them is to put a small piece of sponge or a plant for them to grab on.
Must invertebrates don't handle well drastic water fluctuations but once they adapt they last for ever I have shrimps that are at list 4 years!
Next month NASH is flying in Mr. Eric Do from San Francisco he is a shrimp expert and a good part of his presentation is about how to acclimatize them.
Also if your water temperature is too high it can be a problem. I personally think they like the water at around 77F

            ammonia is 0
            nitrates is 0
            iron is .1 or so
            chlorine is >.05
theres no copper in the tank but i dont have a way of testing for it either..

theres 2 platys 1 swordtail 1 powder blue gourmai 2 apistogramma double oranges and a oto

this tank has been runing strong for along time now.. maybe the shrimp are just stressed??

thats odd. i got 3 from city pets and they are doin just fine. my tank had been running almost a yr but i had just done a major rescape about a week before i bought them. mine are growing really fast and they eat all the time

Chlorine should not be greater than .05.
                    That may present a problem

i picked them up at fish gallery.. i believe it was daniel? that turned me on to them. he said they were good.. i need to get a pressurized co2 system soon. the diy isnt cutting it.itll put out co2 strong for a few mins each time i shake it up but after that its like its not even there... maybe my spiro diffuser will get here today or tomorrow and ill actually be able to see if im getting co2.. right now its put into the powerhead venturi. not very effective imo

Hopefully you didn't get the sprio diffuser with more then like 3-4 spirals....the DIY sucks with those. What recipe are you using for your yeast mix? I have one that is pretty killer and will almost keep up with pressurized for a few weeks.

As for the brightwell stuff....I used ADA ferts and loved what they did for the plants and it was really simple....asked about the brightwell stuff cause they make some interesting reef supplements that I want to try out.
