It should be okay if you add fish slowly over the next couple weeks. Don't add everything at once.

Makes me wonder if I should have done water conditioning since the start of the tanks cycle and how it would have had any bearing on the cycle or overall plants health.

Even though there's no fish in the tank, I think you still need to condition water. Chlorine might kill beneficial bacteria in the filter at water change if you don't add conditioner.
