I bought the fluval 88 co2 kit and I bought some paint ball co2 containers and I might have not screwed them in the regulator right and lost all of it so I wanted to try the excel until I find something else.

excel is safe imo.... CO2 tank can be high maintenance and one little malfunction your stock is gone. I found that I have more control with excel. It doesn't have the growth quality of CO2 tank but it's safer in my case.

Everything's lookin real green! Congrats! IMO Excel and CO2 are about the same. Both can be controlled quite easily and both can be dangerous for livestock if overdosed. Only thing is that CO2 has better growth rate for plants.

yeah it's easier to control Excel dosage imo, since co2 system can fail randomly and silent dead is the worst...

If you set up a nice CO2 setup, it shouldn't fail randomly without you knowing. Those paintball setups on the other hand... well they're cheap for a reason.

the paintball setup quality depends on the regulator and the solenoid a $100 regulator is going to be a lot better then a $7 one depends what you choose

thanks, I have noticed with out the Co2 the growth has slowed tremendously. What do y'all use to dose excel? I use the cap and fill it to the first line. I was thinking of using a Syringe. I could probably just use a 1cc syringe. Is 1cc good enough for a 24 gallon with all the plants I have?

Also I have about 20+ or so RCS and I want to add other shrimp. I just don't want anything breeding with each other, what would y'all suggest?

Also if y'all have any recommendations that I should change or add let me know. This is my first shot at a planted/ shrimp tank. All constructive criticism is welcome.

Likewise, my 5g is my first attempt at planted and shrimp along with nano tank. I use an eye dropper/pipette to dose excel and flourish. I use a syringe for pinpoint feeding or when I need to pinpoint h2o2 onto hair algae. I dose 10 drops of excel which is equal to the ml dosage recommended by seachem for daily dosage for a 5g. At the moment I'm dosing every 2-3 days to get the plants and livestock used to excel and then I'm gonna move up to everyday. I'll stop using excel once I get a nice CO2 setup. For flourish I dose 20-30 drops about 2-3 times a week.

For shrimp, the only thing that won't breed with them are caridina shrimp and low order shrimp. There's a bunch of them listed in the sticky on dwarf shrimp keeping in the invert section of the forum. Very good info

Excel dosage is 1ml/10gallon a day, I underdose this by half with 2ml per day in my 40 gallon tank. If you have the small bottle of excel a full cap is 5ml. The big bottle of 1L or more typically has the 10ml cap

Looks really great! I love it! What are you gonna grow in between the riccia (I think that's what it is? The foreground plants)? Or are you gonna leave it open? I like to hide my equipment (intake, return, heater). You can do so by placing driftwood or plants in a well positioned place. My intake w/ sponge is quite hidden because of my driftwood and some of the stem plants. My current heater is ridiculously huge for the tank, but it's temporary until I can find a smaller one that is strong enough.
