Good call and you'll really appreciate doing the work now as opposed to having the hassle the rest of the tanks life...

      Re: Tysons livebearer's thread

      very true.
i should have done this properly. I thought rinsiing in the tankand draining would be eassier but it doesnt work that way. The dust particles seem to settle down into the sand as i drain it only then removing a very smallnamoubt from the water present. I think complete remove into s large bucket or barrow as il be using and really tuning it over with my hsbds snd hosing it properly will help

      cheers

        Re: Tysons livebearer's thread

Tys, it seems to me that the sand you ended up with is not true pool filter sand due to the amount of silt still present in the tank.

            Re: Tysons livebearer's thread

The silt should eventually be gone the more you clean it, I hope for your sake LOL. The PFS I've bought here have been mostly silt free after about 2 - 3 rinses.

              lol hopefully.
im looking at very intensive labouring tommoro. Mini shovel to get it sll out anr into a wheel barrow or bin. And washhh washhh washhh i go and i hope so for my sake it rinses lmao or else this would hsve been a waste of time and water.
il post up my journey of "cleaning" tommoro lol

Lol, try some dry sugar sized Aragonite!!! I rinsed ours nearly 20+ times and it still looked like that when I added it to the tank and it took a week to finally settle down. You'll be fine with some good rinsing, its really not that bad.

I feel for ya. We just went through this for our 150g. What was it, sweetie?... 4 bags? It took forever!
But yes, much better to pull it out and blast it, though it is such a pain. We've got a pressurized nozzle, and let that do most of the work for us when we rinse PFS. Just blast the heck out of it, moving the spray around so it moves all the sand as you fill the bucket. Dump water and repeat. I think we usually do each half bucket of sand 5+ times until it gets clear(-ish?)...

the PFS. here rinses out quick. Tys If I had known what the PFS was like there. I would have never said a thing about it. I should have said to rinse it out in a bucket first. When I sagested using it.

                              ok guys well
after taking the wrong route and learning the very hard way i am pleased fo anounce eveything went to plan. I did not rinse my substrate ( pool fikter sand) correlty in the first place which led to me doing a full strip down. With a bit of hard yakka (aussie term for hard work) i got it all done and im very happy

Well , This is what fueld my morning and afternoon lol. After getting sujested to strip my tank down completly i knew i was in for some hard work lol

i purchased this mini shovel from a toolshop for $5 aud. Pretty cheap and its useful. One by one. The sand come out. I shoveld it straight into a wheelbarrow so i could hose and rinse out the sand slowly in it..

more shovelng progresss foowed by rinsing

after 7 full wheelbarrow loads of water rinsing the water finaly started to clear up with high pressure water

sand all out. Yellow dirty water from unrinsed properly sand. This all was siphoned out.

i then transferd l the sand to this blue barrel and used it as a final blasting lol.. i blasted it all and then transferd to tank

once the sand was in i then went on to using a bucket and slowly filling the tank. Pressure was gentle as i didnt want to disturb substrate even tho its clean and clean i wanted it all to go in gently

half way there. At this stage i was very happy. Big smile on my face i was excited to see my first big aquarium clear!!!!!

                              filled up!!!!!
was very happy i then went on to fitting all heaters and pump/filters turbing thrm all on.

I then went on to adding some rocks. Drift wood to come still and lotsssss of plants :) also waiting on my light :)

                              heres a quick video

id like to thank all members who assisted me in fixing this problem. I hope others who run into this same problem csn read up and learn off my mistake

                              cheers fishbox

Congrats, I know it was some tough work!!! The end results look soooo worth it though!!!! The tank looks great and terrifically clear, now you won't ever have to sweat that issue in the future and you'll be happy you took the extra effort. Looking forward to seeing this tank with some plants and lights and eventually dare I say.... FISH, lol. Great job!
