      Re: plecostomus in ponds

A way to catch them are with castaway nets. Greens Bayou has some in the shallow areas. You see them on rocks and in the the current. Sometimes they think you can not see them when you approach, so they freeze up and try to look like a stone or something. Then you cast your net over them, and bam, you got 'em.

I wouldn't mind, helping out. I have fun when i catch plecos with the water, the fight, and the prize: pleco. Just gotta make time. I work nights 10 hours, and 5 days a week. I am Goin' try with a coworker of mine to catch some at Greens Bayou by his house. He says he sees them there all the time.

Where by UH is the pond? And is it big, deep?

I got a pond behind my complex up here on the NW side, and i have caught a baby pleco. so there are plecos breeding here, i just can see past 1 ft in the water.
      Plecos:
      L083 (Gibby)
      L104 (Clown)
      L147 (Peckoltia sp.)
      L155 (A. Hystrix)
      L310 (Red Fin Bruno)
      LDA72 (BN)
      LDA76 (False Zebra)
      Rineloricaria parva (whiptail)
      Rineloricaria lancelota

        Re: plecostomus in ponds

I have never collected there near the U of H. There was and article about it years ago by Parks and Wildlife but that is gone. What I rembember is Mac Gregor Park. I think it is a bayou not a pond. I have no idea of the dimensions.

We can take some time to plan this trip. There is no hurry. It might be cooler in a month or two. I found this link to all kinds of exotic fish that are collectable:

        http://nas.er.usgs.gov/queries/Speci...thway=&Sortby=[Group],Genus,Species,SubSpecies&Size=50&nativeexotic=&Pa ge=12

There are some references to Buffalo Bayou in this link. The Pterygoplichthys are at the bottom of this page. One can click on one of them then click on the red in the upperright hand corner then click on the red highlighted area in Houston and get a list of locations.

Most of the bayou in MacGragor Park is now fenced off. I remember playing frisbee golf there last year. I imagine that it isn't completely fenced off (I wasn't looking with that intent), but just thought you should be aware.

Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

              Re: plecostomus in ponds

Thank you Jose and armthehomeless. Bufflao Bayou and Waugh Drive is sounding better. Jose, Do you have any details about the White Oak Bayou location? Greens Bayou and I10 seems pretty turbid wide and maybe deep. Are there any parks, bathrooms, shade and better fishing spots on Greens Bayou?

I have a cast net, but no fishing license. Does this count as fishing?

Bob Baker suggested that I could noodle the catfish but I am not going to do that:

                          Re: plecostomus in ponds

Ellen, Texas fishing licenses expire on August 31st.  Looks like this years annual fee for freshwater is $28.  A one day pass will cost $11 plus $4 for each additional day.  I always get a fishing license but unfortunately I haven't had the time to do any fishing lately.

For those interested in more info you can go here:

                          TPWD

Thought I'd post this since it looks like there are expeditions in the planning stages.

That's the same site I found earlier when I was seeing if I could get a one day pass. Now I know more than I will ever need to about fishing in TX!

szidlon, it is important to make time for the fun/important things in life like fishing. We can all find the burrows and let Bob do the noodling.
