oh, i see. i read that they do interbreed but i didnt know what they would make mutants lol. so what other shrimp can i keep with the cherries. not for now but for a near future.

Here is a simplified chart, that should help and there are far more online. The best we can do as keepers is to pay close attention to their family genus. Species and scientific names are a bit sketchy still and we are not fully aware of what some breeders are using and crossing to produce hybrids, if they even exist. There are quite a few families and its best not to keep members of the same family in the same tank until its been proven they will not crossbreed. Here is a short list...
Atyopsis
Bamboo Shrimp -- Atyopsis moluccensis

Caridina
Amano Shrimp -- Caridina multidentata **Exception to rule, will not breed with other Cardina sp.
Bee Shrimp -- Caridina cf. cantonensis
Bumble Bee Shrimp -- Caridina sp.
Crystal Red Shrimp -- Caridina cf. cantonensis
Green Shrimp -- Caridina sp.
Tiger Shrimp -- Caridina Sp

Neocaridina
Blue Pearl Shrimp -- Neocaridina cf. zhangjiajiensis
Red Cherry Shrimp -- Neocaridina heteropoda
Neocaridina heteropoda -- Neocaridina heteropoda
Snowball Shrimp -- Neocaridina cf. zhangjiajiensis
Yellow Shrimp -- Neocaridina heteropoda

There are quite a few others as well, such as the Sulawesi shrimp and newer species are being introduced at a phenominal rate like the Rili and differing color variants that erupt from Asia. The better you research and hunt for information the more informed we all are on their origin and possible familial parentage.

I myself have kept Ghost/Glass shrimp (Palaemonetes spp.), Bamboo Shrimp (Atyopsis), Cameroon shrimp (another Atyopsis), Amano, and Crystal Reds in with them with no worries about possible issues. Also any shrimp that needs brackish water or marine to reproduce cuase no worries as they are unable to breed in freshwater (as in the case with the fan shrimps of Atyopsis). Hope that helps and if you get some info or exp. then please share as we are all learning as we go.

* As to mutants, they are actually reverting back to their natural coloration which is a muddy brown. All the color variants were breed from them originally and by mixing them you are adding colors and diversity back in and would likely just produce 'normal' colored offspring. We have the mutants and keeping them that way is what gives them their bright colorations.

alright good to know. so what would be the next species i could try should be a CRS or move to a yellow? what would be your advice?

Yellow would require an additional tank, but they are just like Cherries. As to other options in your tank, there are a few oddbal Caradina that do appreciate harder water, likel Malawi and Greens that could work theoretically. Most Caradina prefer soft water and most use ADA Aquasoil or stratum to acidify RO water to achieve this. They will live in our tap, but breeding has never occured for me other then twice and no fry survived. There is the option of Sulawesi as well, Tim is far more knowledgable on them though. I suppose you could try and keep them in with your cherries if one was less sensitive then others. As to crossing, I could not say for certain. Amano's are cool and get sizable, as are Bamboo and Vampires, but they will not brteed in fresh and are ridiculously hard in brackish. On the upside Amano's are cheap and easy, so buying them at $1.00 is reasonable and they live a good while.

alright i think i will wait then lol. having an extra tank is out of the question. i do want to set one up at my office but no tank to set up lol. sales jobs are stresing and watching fish is really relaxing.

Use the cross stitching grids in the walmart crafts section, tie your moss to that and them to that house looking thing.

i made that prior of me knowing of the grid thing your talking about. and its not a house. i wanted the moss to attach to it instead of the drift. that picture its like 2 weeks old.

the Rock house i have with the Angels or the Rocks i have on this one? those are actually petrified wood. they only had tiny pieces.
