all my freshwater fishes survived without power in 3 days, but I lost most of the fish on my saltwater tank. No damage to my house

Steve and I are fine...we lost power until midday sunday when only half of our complex got their power restored, we are on the lucky half..the other half still has no power...there is lots of roof damage, trees down and several new entrances to our complex..no damage to our unit though..no fish loss, just an extremely sweaty 3 year old and a fried modem..oh yeah, we just found out Steve lost his comic book collection due to flood water at his parents house  

just got our internet back up and running today..TVMAX brought us a new modem pretty quick, took them a day..Mary Beth is fine..still has no power and is on her way over to have a few beers and borrow our bubblers until hers comes back on...Hope everyone else is ok...If anyone knows someone in my area that needs help please let me know...Juicy

If she needs bubblers I have 3 I can lend her if she is interested.
Katy has grocery stores open now and many gas stations are open.  This afternoon I drove past a couple and there was only a few cars at each one.
Kroger at 1093/1464 is JAMMED packed with people.  Not the place to get gas :(

Lost power at 10 Friday, used the scoop and pour method to keep my 7 tanks alive...lost 3 of the oldest and weakest Mollies. 1 Cardinal Tetra. All in all, a near miracle!
Have power, just keep getting a dial tone, but no DSL, occasionally. Gotta post fast!
Glad to hear all the Boxers posting at least escaped harm.  Nick, I am truly sad for your loss...it seems that hard times bring out the Angels, though. Please keep me posted.
So truly sorry for those who had damage, life is gonna be hard for all, but almost unbearable for some, in the coming days.
My heart and prayers go out to those hurting from Ike.

Got a text message from him today saying that the remaining fish were doing fine.  Still no power.  If you call him and he doesn't answer, it's because he's trying to conserve his cell phone minutes at this point.

cichlidfan reports no fish loss, house okay.....still no power....trees down on lines a few houses down.....

i got power at 8pm tonight....lost one fish ....a baby clown loach....all the other faired well on all the bubblers.....
spent all day yesterday in Baytown with sister....she got 5 ft of water in her house and lost everything.....we spent the whole day salvaging what we could and unburying all the things to get into the house....i'm reminded of Alica when my mother lost her house....the same way....it's a very sad time in Baytown....all the prayers for the people of that area are sincerely appreciated.....

Loretta, great news, thank you for updating us on Steve. I am however sorry for the loss your family has suffered. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help.

Jesper - thanks for the suggestion of taking a picture w/ phone.   we still reported the station as to the problem so if thier invoices don't match thier gas gages they will have a problem.

still have no power, rare phone service as well.          thanks to all who have tried to contact.        will check the box but very busy during the day so don't usually get to check it till evening.  

good friends arriving tonite who have a tree service in north florida and are here to work.           since they are staying as needed here w/ us I will get the trees took care of.                any who need thier service please try to post as they will be in area while needed.              they are all x-airforce who served w/ our son and we have known 10+ years -- good at what they do.      bonded , of course.             they will go all over  so your location is not a problem.  

tornado      went thru our neighborhood  so we do need them  --   person 4 places down stopped counting trees at 100 !!!

well i am now with power. from what i can tell is i didnt have any fish loss. I blame the success on lots of luck and lots and lots of plants. anyway if MB needs more pumps im down the street from her to conserve gas :wink: . hope we all have power soon.

WoHO just got power back. I had a generator to keep the fish alive, frig cold, and tv on. No fish loss here. Thank god too I just spent a grand redoing my 180 and my 110. Life is good!!!!

Today is day 5 and we don’t have electricity! I am running my last set of batteries for my fish. I have not been able to do water changes either so PLEASE if you live in Houston and you have D batteries please let me  know if you want to sell them I have lost many fish and my plants are in such bad shape that the aquarium water is smelling bad already.

I just dug through our battery drawer and have 5 D-cell batteries that we didn't take over to Nick.  You can have them.  The CVS over here has been open for a few days and I'm wondering if they may also be restocked.  You are also welcomed to bring fish here for fostering if you want to.  We have a 20 tall and 2 -10s we can set up.  If you have some small HOB filters, that would help, otherwise we could manage something.

If you have large fish or lots of fish that need more room that the 20 and 2-10's, we can move our puffer from the 110g since he's still so small and use that.  I'll PM you my number.

I have 10 D-cell that are still good. Might have more but have to look again.
Also have a running 100 gal tank empty if you need a temp. house for your fish.
