  • worth it?

i have been contemplating buying a new 65 or 75 gallon for a while, of course i would love an ADA tank, but the 65 gallon (48*18*18) is $520 ($480+tax), then i have to get stand, filter, lighting, substrate, rocks, driftwood etc. etc.

i am feeling guilty about getting the ADA instead of an AGA or something that is almost half its price, is an ADA worth the extra price?

    do you guys have one?

    Re: worth it?

Finfan -- I have bought all my tanks online and used.  There are simply to many people out there that wants to get rid of tanks that they no longer can have etc.. for prices that are close to 1/4 or less of what they originally bought them for.  I have used Craigslistings before, and there are several 75g tanks for sale right now.
If I had the money etc, I have been contemplating selling my 75 and replace it with a 90.. but that is still going to be down the road.   When I do... I will be looking here or on Craigslist.

            Re: worth it?

now i need to find a good/sturdy reasonably priced black stand, and a eheim thermofilter, i hate how heaters looks on the back or side of a tank, ugly sight

              Re: worth it?

What are you trying to get CityPets to find out?

They are pretty good about the ADA stuff and if they haven't gotten back to you about getting/ordering one is probably because the stuff comes in containers from Japan and has to go through customs. Not really as easy as clicking on the internet.

              Either way though ADA>AGA!

did you get the 120p? marineland has some decently priced stands that don't look too bad. or you can try the all glass pine majesty stands too, that's what i have on all my other tanks. as far as the heater, hydor makes an inline one you could plumb to your return line.

Here's a good looking prebuilt stand I would use for an ADA tank......

                      Re: worth it?

Finfan... I am so sorry... I missed the whole part about the ADA part being the important item here to look for... I am REALLY sorry about that..  now I feel like a complete a$$ for bringing that up.
Again I am glad to hear that you got it going.

The only filter choice for a 120p I can think of is an eheim 2128 -- Rated for a 158G tank -- comes with a 210w heater.  Pipes, and media included.  $314.97 from aquariumgarden (I have not shopped here before but they are the least expensive people I see online.  CHECK AROUND before you make your final decision.

                      I hope this helps.

                        Re: worth it?

zu, no worries at all, i have been thinking about the eheim 2128 as well, wish it was a little less expensive, the alternative would be to get two hob's (each for 55g) and then a regular heater, the price would be almost one third, but won't look nice, thanks for the website though

anyone else here shopped from aquariumgarden.com?

ok here is a question, i want to make this a planted tank, i do not want CO2, the only plants i want are amazon sword and anubias nanas, now i know the nana's will do just fine w/o CO2 and 2wpg, do you guys think amazon sword will do fine as well?  i do not need vigorous growth, as long as they are steady and growing, i will be happy

                            Re: worth it?

Talk to Dan at HAW about the filter....he has good prices on Eheim! With this size tank....~58g? I would probably go with an eheim 2217 if it's planted or maybe two of them or two 2215's.

As for the plants, if you are not wanting to do co2 because of the cost then I will tell you that it pays off in the end! There is no real substitute to pressurized co2. The amazon would do find but probably not great and honestly the anubias would also benefit a great deal from co2. Just wondering why are you not wanting to use co2?

There are options like liquid organic carbon which would work or you could just stuff the tank full of fish.

                              finfan,

I was asked to price the ADA for you....there is very little mark up on the tanks since they are shipped from Japan. YOu should have waited and got a better discount
