thank you, that pumps me up. it just that everyone here have amazing tanks and well i feel completely like an underdog with a simple tank with fake plants. but your right it may be simple but has its attitude to it.

Get nice sand and don't skimp or get crap and you'll be fine.

Also if you're using canisters avoid the ones with bottom mounted motors/impellers. Like stated above, keeping the intake higher off the bottom helps and avoid stirring it up too much.

I've never had serious problems with sand and quite honestly never plan to use anything but sand in any tank present or future unless I'm doing planted or the like which will have plant substrate.

i want to place black sand but the one i found was at petco and seemed to be more of a really small gravel instead of sand, as compare to pfs. the bad thing as for the pfs is the color, its to light but its true sand.

Try CityPets or FishRanch, they carry the Estes Marine sand (which is actually just dyed sand, Inert) and it is a bit heavier than the Tahittian Moon sand so it won't kick up as bad and it's also cheap compared to the TMS.

It would a lot cheaper to source dry goods from the LFS since Petco/Petsmart are killer on prices.

Houston Aquarium Warehouse has driftwood. I actually donated some to them not too long ago. I'm pretty sure they have some manzanita branches also.

Just a couple of pieces. Nothing special. One was L shaped fairly tall. Didn't see it the last time I went in. Someone might have snagged it.
