    Re: MY mini fish room

the 29 i think is going to house my brichardis (except for one in the 55 for variety, let me know if you think this bad idea but from what i hear they are ok as long as they arent breeding cant breed with one) and then hopefull each of the 20 high's will get a pair of breeders from the tank first dibbs goes to first lucky couple. in the 6 will go guppies and a dwarf clawed frog and CRS(cherry red shrimp) and in the corner 5 i am going to do dwarf puffers and maybe bumbee gobies since they stay small maybe endlers too. i will have multies in one ten (the other 10s probably for fry from breeders) and the 15 will be for my apistos that i am going to try to breed(crossing my fingers) that leaves me two shelves and i have a 20 long to go there and i might be able to fit a shelf of severl 5 gallon tanks for fry. Killies may get the 20 long all to themselves and maybe i breed them too, dont know yet. let me know i you have any other suggestions thanks guys and gals

      Re: MY mini fish room

I think that sounds great.  I haven't tried to breed anything but I think it sounds like a lot of fun.  I have accidentally bred a ton of peacock cichlids and of course the livebearers.  I don't have room for all the extra tanks needed to breed anything I'd be interested in breeding.  I've always thought it would be fun to try to breed some bettas but I don't know what I'd do with the fry.  I can just picture my house full of bowls of bettas.
I heard the golden wonder killies are pretty easy to breed.  I would love to try my hand at that sometime.
How are you going to do the water changes?

Python, its the only sane way. i have already started marking (just small little lines with sharpy) where 5 and ten gallons is on the tanks so i can not over or under do the changes. thanks to a tip from trademan i am trying Prime water conditioner. works well so far but we will see. hope it does great and since his tanks do so well its a good sign. plus its super concentrated stuff (that means cheaper in the long run.)

          Re: MY mini fish room

I remember back when I didn't have a python.  Not cool.  Mine recently cracked and I can't find a replacement part so I took it apart and now it's basically a hose.  I tried the parts at Petsmart but the piece that cracked isn't among those they carry.  Only bad part is I have to run to the sink to turn the water on/off instead of flipping the lever thing.  Still beats buckets though!
I've been using Nova Aqua.  You like Prime better?  I just ran out so I'll try Prime.  I've seen a lot of people on the forum using it so it must be good.  Cheap is good if it works.

            Re: MY mini fish room

I use Prime, Amquel plus and Novaaqua plus right now and I think Prime is similar to Amquel. The things they are advertised to do and the smell is exact almost

other than that I haven't notice anything different, I tried both when I was trying to rid/lower the ammonia so I treated and tested about an hour  later along with the following day and it wasnt much difference in readings either.

              Re: MY mini fish room

i have used NOv aqua for years and like it. just heard that prime worked better say with a tank that has eggs or fry in it (at least if you are just putting back with the python. so hey easier is better for me. if it works when  get the fish breeding then i will stick with it but i never had any problems with Nov aqua and i still recomend it at the store.

                Re: MY mini fish room

well i added some more fish to the mix today, including tada shell dwellers. i have a small colony of multis on the way so i thought i would get a couple of extra females for the guy but turns out i got similis instead now what am i going to do with those. i also got some brevis, they are pretty cool. and finally i got Telmatochromis vittatus, another shell dweller that likes to eat other cichlid eggs 8O . i also picked up 4 itty bitty endlers and a whole bunch of croaking guaramies. i love those little guys. set up another tank one of the 20's. 2morrow its another ten (hopefully it holds water testing it as i type) and another 20 which i gotta test in the morning. then hopefully a 5 and a six gallon too. so lots to do the next couple of days

                  Re: MY mini fish room

Off topic-I looked at my Amquel Plus yesterday and it gets rid of nitrates so it might not be that great for planted tanks.  Regular Amquel and Prime did not claim to get rid of nitrates so I picked up some of that to use on my planted tank.

Back to topic-that's too bad you got the wrong fish but the good thing is you have plenty of room now!  I'm about to google croaking gourami-I've never heard of them.

Croaking gouramis are great! They're tiny, but so pretty. I had a couple a few years ago. How many did you get, Tiapan?

                        Re: MY mini fish room

Sounds like you got a good variety of shellies setting up! I think similis are very nice along with the multis, where did you get the similis btw?

sproett, I use amquel plus in my planted tank and if you have a decent amount of stock in there the effects on nitrate is negligible.

trying to breed Cypicromis, leluopi, brichardi (maybe) Juli transcriptus gombi, neolamp Brevis, Vittatus, Multis, looks like maybe simmilis too    if i can find more that is. and maybe the gouramis. it looks like they may be adult pygmy ones and not croaking. gonna check pics online closer but i think thats what they are. that would be cool to breed those. oh and hoepfully my apisto cacatoids. i lost one of my macmasteri so thats a no go on them. gonna set up another tank or two hopefully tuesday morning if i can get out of bed early enough and get my rack built. i am gonna order some no BS fry food. if anyone wants some i know Homeless is gonna order with me. so if yall want to help lower shipping cost just let me know.

                                Re: MY mini fish room

I make my own fry food out of NLS grow, veggie flakes and some algae wafers. Just crush them all together till you get it to a powder state, that's what my multi's,mobas, guppies, pretty much any fry gets and they are all nice a big now.

Which cyps are you planning on breeding? The same as Tim? If you get some going I would be intrested in some! We could trade stock.

Here's what I plan to be breeding and hopefully it won't take long.....

                                Tropheus Moorii Ilangi
                                Tropheus Moorii Mpulungu
                                Apistogramma Cacatuoides Gold Triple Reds
                                Neolamprologus Multifasciatus (fry already)
                                Gold white clouds
                                Red Cherry Shrimp (shrimplets already)
