    Re: MY mini fish room

Are you going to post pictures of your new fish room?  I'm slighty envious and wouldn't mind seeing a few.

BTW-my husband was looking at different companies online last night for custom aquariums in the 10,000+ gallon range.  This will be something we do after he's had some time to establish his career so we can actually afford to do this.  I was am so excited.  I've always wanted to do this but figured he would never go for it.  But now he wants a huge cylinder as the center piece for our house.  Pretty neat.

      sweet sproett!!!

I'm waiting for the fiance to finish pharm school and I will be taking on a hujungous tank too!

Tiapan I think we have something in common! My fiance is in school too and even though we are sitting next to each other she doen't know I'm there and I can't me messing with her cause she is studying like no other! 6days a week it's like that and sometimes 7 so what I did was bring in a few more tanks to occupy my time.

Post up some pics when you can I would like to see how it all went, when I finish the '69 stang in the garage I will be turning that into a fishroom and I'm thinking 55g shelves and maybe a few vats.

ETA: when I had my dp's in with my RCS they didn't touch them and could have cared less that they were in there.

Oh, I think I'm in the same boat as you both.  My husband is in medical school and is busy with that all the time.  He's either at the hospital or at home studying.  I've got my daughter to keep me busy plus my dogs, a bird, and my fishies.
eklikewhoa-What size tank are you wanting to get?  We want to have one with large freshwater fish like clown knives, arowana, and fish like that.  What kind of fish are you going to put in your garage?  I basically full here.  We live in a condo so space is very limited.  We're buying a house next year though.

          Re: MY mini fish room

Well, I own a house now but think we will have to upgrade when it comes time for her to finish school into a much bigger house so that it will house my monster tanks.

I'm thinking at least 2 10-12 footer tanks! One with a giant colony of moba frontosa's and the other with a massive and ungodly colony of tropheus. also something normal for a planted tank with either discus or angels, probably like a 6'. A nice exotic tank would be cool too like with an Asian Chili or Super Red arowana but after loosing our Asian Gold/Green I don't think I could keep another, it would be reall nice looking though.

For the garage I think a bunch of grow out tanks, breeders, and a few vats for oddball stuff like a mine habitat/lake type deal or just keep cichlids in there too. I plan to grow out a lot of my fry from both my tropheus and frontosas and hopefully get my hands on a lot more zebra plecos and start to breed them in multi colonies/tanks. When the time comes I will hopefully have other tropheus variants and a much larger in size and quantity moba colony.

Pretty much move everything into one room to simplify waterchanges, viewing and the like.

            Re: MY mini fish room

That sounds awesome.  I would love to have a Tang tank someday but for now I can't afford those fish.  They are so expensive.  I'd also like to keep discus someday.  That's another fish I really can't afford now.  I hope that all works out for you.  I keep all mine in the living room now and it helps with the water changes.  Plus I like to sit on my couch and admire the fish.  Who needs tv! :)

              Re: MY mini fish room

Yeah I dont watch Tv either, four tanks in the front living room and two in the back living room is enough entertainment for me.

To keep this on topic though..... I plan to use stainless steel square tubes for my custom stand/walls. My pops is a welder so I might have him help me weld some walls to hold the tanks or I could do it myself since I worked with him back when but personally I think it would be be strongest and less susceptable to weathering.

that sounds awesome, wish i had the time to pick up welding always wanted to. but i will have picks up soon, gotta get them all set up first. and wait for a few more filters to come in. trying to get more of the same kind so when i need supplies bulk is better (going with aquaclear 20s for most of the small tanks) anyway next is my labeling system i am going to do so i an tell which cord goes to which tank. i think i am just going to find sme different colored electrical tape. and just make tags blue light and blue filter and a blue sticker on that tank. that sort of thing. what do yall think.

                  Re: MY mini fish room

they sell colored velcro at micro center or frys I think if you want to color code and strap the cords together or strap them against the stand.

If you plan to run the tanks off a strip you could go with those 1-to-3 extension cords and just label the one extension cord instead of three.

thats not a bad idea considering they wont be using too much power since they smaller tank. but more cords i think is bad with my cat who will probably be chilling around the tanks, she doesnt chew but sometimes runs through places. i may have to use extensistion cords for the tanks on the rack just so they reach to the power strip though

Not sure what you're talking about, what's a 1-to-3 extension cord?

I think the electrical tape is a wonderful idea!

a 3 to 1 is one plug it and at the end is three sockets to plug stuff into, a niffty extension cord they are usaully only 6 ft long.

Hey, I sent you a pm earlier.  Will you be working today or tomorrow?  I have to go to your store to exchange the gourami that died yesterday.

                            something like this http://www.homedepot.com/prel80/HDUS...ceffdfgidgjn.0

I have seen shorter ones though and cheaper, just a quick search to give you an idea. I think if you got ones that were just long enough it would eliminate 3wires(light,filter and heater) and be just one wire coming from the tank and you can just roll/fold up the wires coming from the tank and just mount the T block above the tank some.

i will probably just use them for the lights so i can hook them to timers easier. that way i dont have to but a bunch of them (timers) i think i may be able to get away with under 6 for the whole room that way. i found the stand/nighttable for the system 6 and corner 5 tank its a 20 high stand from my store with shelves and a back to it. should fit both tanks on top and have to little cubbies for the girlfriend's stuff. and got another 20 high for the double stand today from craigslist. setting up a few tanks tommorow hopefully. maybe even move the dresser in so i can set up the 29 too. slowly coming together. oh and i always work Mon/Tues/Fri/Sat/Sunday. in fact i work everyday right now because i have private lessons on Wed/ and THurs. but i work afternoon and evenings.
