Yes, I have lost more. did a 50% WC today and the rest seem a bit more lively but that has been happening this whole time. Hopefully it's different this time.
But yes, the insurance makes it easier to handle. But still disappointing to see such nice fish pass away.

Have you lost any more fish? Hopefully things get better. Good thing your insured!

Just to clear the air about all of this fish talk. These fish will indeed be covered!

Make sense with the sunken eye issues. Still.treating for bacterial infection though for sure. That seems to have stopped at this point...
That doesn't always mean anything though.Last edited by Mastiffman; 03-30-2014, 07:56 PM.

Andrew, I just read the thread on LT and have to agree with the substance of what they told you. This condition has never been successfully treated by anybody I know keeping tangs. I know it's hard but you have to let the disease run its course and treat the survivors. That's what I did to my Lueba colony and they're doing fine now in their new tank.Last edited by SunnyHouTX; 03-30-2014, 06:22 PM.

Definitely, They all went into the tank at the same time. All of my other tanks have been stable for a long time. Even this tank was a new setup... Established but newer.Originally posted by SunnyHouTX View PostAre you positive that the sunken eye symptom came up on the fish you added to the tank?
I have seen this over the years. Good people and good knowledge base. I have found the most help from this site and Trophs regarding this situation.Originally posted by mnemenoi View PostNo sweat! LOL, we are all generally good natured folks here. I just saw the location and figured I should verify what tap water/parameters are before assuming it was like Houston Texas. Our water is liquid rock here. I have never been on either board, I imagine Sunny and a few die hard tang fans here are. We keep a dedicated tang tank with multis, gobies, petricolas, and used to be a colony of Mpimbwe cyps. Lost all the cyps and a breeding pair of gobies, but should be getting a bigger tank soon and we will start over again. Definitely a big cyp/featherfin fan although oddball tangs always call my name.
It's just WAY out of control over there...

Okay, thank you for the advice. This site is much more positive that ECC and Laketang. Good Grief. They went on attack mode instead of helping to brain storm a possible solution. They just said they are done.
Thanks.

My off the cuff guess would be internal parasites (possibly a nematode or even a microbial culprit), as the water parameters look great (was interested in how it fared compared to ours as your a bit far afield and wanted to ensure their was no odd parameter we might be dealing with). Have you tried dosing a prazi (paraguard or some similar medication) in the tank? That would rule out the more common types of IP's. If that showed no affect, I would go big and dose copper. Its effective at a lot, but can also affect the livestock. Garlic is a surprisingly effective treatment and most fish devour it. I wouldn't bet the bank on it being effective, but I imagine it won't hurt. I know Sunny was having a dropsy related issue awhile back from some WC petros if I remember correctly. It affecting cross species in the tank suggests an infection or living culprit. I think treating is your best course of action and hopefully eliminating it shortly. I might suggest soaking food in garlic guard and vita-chem to offer more sustenance on what they are able to eat.

I use CaribSea Aragonite. Just like the rest of my tanks. It doesn't make sense to me that it's water parameters, being that they are the same as the rest of my tanks that hold WC Tropheus, Gobies, Comps and Petros...
It's am illness of some sort.
Have you ever dealt with these symptoms?

Hmm, I have kept and had experience with the above mentioned species. What are your hard water parameter numbers? I think it has to do with water parameters, but seeing your numbers would help in determining it. Do you have an API master test kit?

Thank you for your time either way. I will look forward to your response.Originally posted by imagirlgeek View PostI wish I had something solid to offer, but I don't. I have a few books on fish illness that I will look through today and will post tonight if I find anything.
To sum it up, I have Honestly done nothing out of the ordinary as any of my other tanks as for outside environmental factors that would affect the situation to cause this. Water and all conditions are in the most Optimal Level of conditions.Originally posted by mnemenoi View PostI can offer to try my hand at back seat diagnostician. I would need species affected (any info on tank raised/WC ect.), all water parameters (temp, ph, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, any other testing you might have done and eliminated as a culprit), known copper/heavy metal treatments? Previously done in the tank? Substrate, hardscape, filtration, anything out of the norm in the tank or about the tank. Normal tap water? Well water? any in house softeners? I have some suspicions, but would really need more info to compose a better hypothesis and possible restorative treatment.
I'm on City water and use the appropriate amount of water treatments that I have used for years now in this house.
Also read post #3 for species being affected at this point.
