  • Tropheus bloat / how I beat it

I have tropheus since I move to Houston 3 years ago
Never have this happen before and thanks to a lot of reading I think I handle it pretty good

The story start one day I leave home and my car broke down far from home and I stay at my brother house tanks were 2 days with light on 1 mistake leave Anne leave lights on

2- I put canary cheek and ikola fry the loaches kill around 10 ikolas fry of 22 - since I sold my frontons never think poacher would kill them

3- take rocks , clown loaches out
4- next day re scape the tank change sand
5- tank went to a mini cycle I knew that was Gina happen so I put them in a 55 while the tank was clear and ready

After all that only lost only 1 Trophs- canary cheek (male) by bloat The group was 4m 6f now is. 3-6 other male help to make it worst for the poor one

This is what work for me
Epsom salt - API general cure ( 250mg of metro)
    Water change
    Epsom salt more general cure
    Water change
    Start. Feeding slowly
    Water change
    Aquarium salt

    Now we are good
Hope this help someone someday if it run with this problem and learn not to do all this changes the same week

I have to say that the ingredients in API general cure will take care of most problems including bloat and several forms of internal parasites.

I think that the combination of Metro and Praziquantel works better than Metro alone, and possibly better than Clout since it's less harsh than Clout. I now have both Metro and Praziquantel (in the form of PraziPro liquid, thanks HAW) handy in case something goes awry but it was too late to save any of my WC Murago but it has saved the rest of the fish that were sharing the tank with them. I also have Clout on hand just as a last resort.

Please note that Praziquantel powder is hard to dissolve in water so PraziPro is much easier to administer. If you're treating with Praziquantel alone, one treatment is good for 7 days.

PS: Glad your fish are all better Geral

Yeah goodluck with that. I don't want them back but I did get them to start breeding and payed alot to get them imported. I don't want them to die without offering a helping hand. I do want to one day have fry from the fish I raised from an inch to 3.5"

Thanks J will see how they do now they are in a 55 g for them, they are getting hungry but feed slow until i power feed back to put them in breeding condition , I made a prototype tumbler in my job if it work i might start doing some more one for small eggs and another for smaller ones so they will be a little more tight.

I'll be looking for some more for you. I'll help with the expense of them as long as I get fry in return later.

Lol. You need to get a solid 50+ colony first.
